[Bug 36455] Crashes trying to configure disabled interfaces

2006-03-24 Thread Graeme Hewson
Public bug reported:
https://launchpad.net/malone/bugs/36455

Affects: kdeadmin knetworkconf (Ubuntu)
   Severity: Normal
   Priority: (none set)
 Status: Unconfirmed

Description:
I have a Toshiba Tecra laptop with a wireless and an ethernet port. I
was unable to configure either when installing Flight 5 (bug 36426).

In System Settings / Network Settings, if I try to configure either
(eth0 or eth1), when I press the "Configure Interface" button the KDE
Crash Handler appears. The short description says "The application KDE
Control Module (kcmshell) crashed and caused the signal 11 (SIGSEGV)."
If I click on the Backtrace tab, I get the popup message "Could not
generate a backtrace as the debugger 'gdb' was not found."

Comment:
I'm not sure what you mean. Do I need to re-install from fresh using a daily
build? I tried looking for updates using adept, but adept shows only 910
packages installed and 0 upgradable. I tried commenting out the cdrom entries
in sources.list and adding universe and multiverse, but that made no
difference. I'm pretty sure adept is looking for updates when I click on
"Fetch Updates" because the modem lights flash! Without comments, sources.list
is:

Please ignore my last comment. Adept was hiding all the error messages
I should have seen... I'm updating my install now.

Comment:
Try turning ACPI off and see if that resolves your problem. Do this by editing
your grub config..

$ sudo vi /boot/grub/menu.lst
put acpi=off at the end of the kernel parameters
