I always assign the default locale that's given at the Ethnologue site,
which says Canada.

Note that this does not limit the UI localization, which should use mere
'pdt' without any country designator.

2017-12-04 Thread Mario L. Epp - PDT-Dev
While adding locales, we might as well include pdt-MX, pdt-BZ and pdt-BO
where many speakers have dificulty communicating in either Spanish or
English. Besides pdt-CA, pdt-US and pdt-PY also have significant
populations of Plautdietsch speakers.

Then we might as well also add pdt-DE. Since they are pushing for a
variant spelling. Similar to en-US/UK or de-DE/AT or fr-FR/CA.

How about including pdt-US, and pdt-MX?
My perception is that the language is used as much, if not more in the
US, and Mexico, as it is in Canada.

###

At some point the UI is going to have to be redesigned, because a
theoretical 250 countries times 3,000 languages times 212 writing
systems is going to be too chaotic for anybody to the language/writing
system/country that they are looking for.

OTOH, Musk's Tesla is more likely to collide with Russell's Teapot, on
its way to Mars, than LibO will have the ability print a document to Moon.

Unfortunately some of that information is out-of-date. But thank you
anyway. I will ask members of our team to provide updates and corrections.

Thank you for clarifying that point. I can live with that locale. Though
a better default locale would be pdt-MX.

We will start working with this locale for now.

Actually we don't use these UN M.49 numeric area codes, but the ISO 3166
alpha-2 country codes instead.

As the main default locale I'll add pdt-CA

No problem, I'll add a user-defined ID.

Unless specifically tailored it will use the Unicode collation algorithm
via ICU.

For how to submit locale data please see
https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/LibreOffice_Localization_Guide/How_To_Submit_New_Locale_Data

All except the calendar day and month names can probably be inherited
from en-CA using the reference mechanism.

[libreoffice-l10n] New language request: PDT "Plautdietsch"

2017-12-01 Thread Mario L. Epp
I would like to request the inclusion of a new language in LibreOffice.

ISO 639-3: pdt - Plautdietsch. A variant of Low German, though very much
distinct and different from the ISO 639-3 "nds".

The language codes as specified by BCP 47 would be:
-> pdt-019 (the main user community)
-> pdt-150 (a secondary community with alternative orthography)

There is no MS-LangID for PDT.

PDT uses the Latin script, just like English, German and Spanish.

The collating order would follow German (de) for now. Though that is
still in flux, and might change slightly in the future.

The quotation marks follow English (en-US).

The currency formats follow the corresponding country codes.

Currently I am the technical lead for the development of a spell checker
and hyphenator for Plautdietsch, the possible localization and the
development of translating dictionaries to and from English, Spanish and
German.

Any help or guidance would be greatly appreciated.
