Dear concerned fellow Americans,
 
Bush and Cheney will continue to drive our country into the ditch and to 
bankrupt our children's future and our national honor until and unless we can 
interrupt their control and actively remove them from office. The best way to 
do this is to put them on trial before the nation and the world for all of 
their criminal actions. Let's push on Speaker of the House Pelosi to honor her 
oath to defend our Constitution by putting impeachment back "on the table" as 
the American people demand. We demand accountability, defense of our 
Constitution against enemies foreign AND DOMESTIC (Bush and Cheney), and the 
Rule of Law. NOTHING ELSE IS MORE IMPORTANT! The continued presence of this 
band of criminals in power prevents our Congress from behaving honorably. 
Remind her that Impeachment IS the people's business. In fact, it is the 
people's #1 business!

Dennis Kucinich's House Resolution 333 for the impeachment of Vice President 
Dick Cheney has been taken off the House floor, and has instead been sent to

is "off the table." But, we are told Nancy Pelosi is reported to have replied

DEFEND YOUR VOTING RIGHTS!

URGENT!

Congress is about to rush us through their own version
of election repair and will "fast-track" the Holt bill
aka Congressman Rush Holt's Voter Confidence and
Increased Accessibility Act of 2007. And a competing
bill H.R. 2360, the "Voter Enhancement
and Security Act of 2007 is even WORSE!

Election integrity activists have been fighting for
the integrity of our elections against formidable odds
for many years. 

The Holt Bill has triggered a raging debate about the
bill among election integrity advocates.

Why?

Because notwithstanding the elegant name and
lofty-sounding statements, the Holt Bill legitimizes
the vote-stealing electronic voting machines by
continuing their use, and also hands the fate of our
elections to the
EAC- the Election Assistance Commission- a body of
White House appointees who act as little more than
accomplices to the theft.

PLEASE send a letter demanding that the Holt Bill HR
811 not be fast-tracked and that an open and thorough
public debate be conducted, with the input from
election integrity citizen advocates.

Demand that any election integrity bill give ultimate
election oversight to CITIZEN groups, NOT to
government groups. The elections are owned by the
CITIZENS, not by government workers.

92% of Americans polled demand that election voting
and
counting be transparent and verifiable. In other
words, electronic voting machines are unacceptable to
92% of voting Americans.

No secret vote counting, full public accountability,
No short-changing Voters' voices.

2. Federal BUYOUT of all touchscreen voting
equipment to rid our states of these machines

secrecy in our public elections

4. No control of voting processes by White House
appointees. Disband the EAC.
 
5. No unfunded mandates 

6. Ultimate control and oversight of elections by
citizens and by multi-partisan election integrity
citizen groups

7. Consult heavily with election integrity citizen

This could be YOU. When you are suddenly yanked from your home and carried off
for interrogation, who will speak for you?
Your friends? Your family? What a joke! What importance will their words have,
when the authorities bring "evidence" against you, extracted from another
detainee who has been through Bush-sanctioned interrogations and torture?

Our nation has reached the depths of depravity- equal to the atrocities of the
Middle Ages and of Soviet gulags. And our so-called "Honorable" Senators and
Congressmen are about to bless Bush and his band of torturers. The so-called
compromise bill on detainees must not be approved!

Here are the rights and protections you are about to lose:

* the right to security in your home and papers
* the right to be free from unreasonable searches
* the safety net of judicial warrant requirements

fraudulent machines and fraudulent 2004 Election.

All Americans who care about the sanctity of their vote must not allow these
unscrupulous officials to get away with throwing our votes away. Let your
Secretary of State and your state Board of Elections members know that we WILL
NOT ALLOW them to fraudulently certify Diebold and other fraudulent electronic
machines, that we are OUTRAGED that they are undermining our democracy. Let
them know that law suits will dog them until they throw out these machines from
our elections.

Here in California, someone slimed our democratically-elected Secretary of
State Kevin Shelley after he decertified Diebold voting machines

resigned. Bruce McPherson was then appointed by Schwarzenegger to replace
Democrat Kevin Shelley. (Shelley has since been exonerated of all the
allegations. But meanwhile, those who would steal our votes got away with
replacing him.) Folks, if they can't win legally, they WILL steal the votes
they need.

This is a Republican coup, and they are counting on YOU, and ME to do NOTHING.
Is it worth FIVE MINUTES OF YOUR TIME to send a FAX, and make a call? Once
you get started, please contact as many layers of the government as you can.

Bruce McPherson, the Schwarzenegger-installed Secretary of State of California,
is ignoring the law and voters' concerns as he has just re-certified the
Diebold voting machines despite the fact that they do not meet the requirements
in election law for such machines.This is not the first time he has tried to
ignore the law and voters' demands. He appears to be hell-bent to deny us the
voters an honest election.

The attempt of ignorant or partisan elections officials nationwide to
sidestep the will of the people and to steal our votes is an affront to us all.
If they do not throw out the fraudulent and disastrously imperfect electronic
voting machines, they should be prosecuted for perpetrating this fraud on all
American citizens.

There is no further proof needed than that the GAO (Government Accountability
Office) has finished investigation of the failures of these machines during the
2004 Election and has unambiguously stated in its report that these machines
are shoddy, poorly designed, full of software errors, penetrable through
multiple avenues, and easily compromised. If after reading this report your
Secretary of State and your lawmakers do not throw these machines out of all
elections, they should be prosecuted for knowingly imposing upon State citizens
a voting system riddled with insecurities, bugs, and multiple avenues for

Establish a new uniformed police force for "special events of national
significance," and expands the authority of the Secret Service by allowing them
to arrest demonstrators at such events if they believe there has been a breach
of a security perimeter. Demonstrators can be charged with a felony, with
penalties of up to 10 years in prison. (This amendment was added to the
conference report without any hearings or discussion.)
Establish new death penalty crimes.

Today the Senate is debating S. 2271 (the Sununu amendments), negotiated with
the White House, which make no substantive fixes to the reauthorization bill.
The House will consider S. 2271 as early as this Thursday.
Call both of your senators and your representative and tell them that S. 2271
falls short of protecting civil liberties. After waiting more than four years,
we demand and deserve real reform, not cosmetics. For example, this amendment:

Requires businesses, medical professionals, and libraries that are served
National Security Letters (NSLs) to wait 1 year before appealing the automatic,
permanent "gag order."
Does not fix the problem of penalties imposed on businesses that do not
cooperate with requests, or the impossible hurdle on those who appeal NSLs to
prove that the government acted in bad faith.
Does not exempt libraries from National Security Letters if they act as
Internet service providers. It exempts only libraries who simply give people
access to the Internet.

Urge your senators and representative to support the following amendments
offered by Senators Russ Feingold, Jeff Bingaman, and Patrick Leahy. Senate
Majority Leader Bill Frist has so far refused to allow these amendments to come
before the Senate for votes.

Senate Amendment (SA) 2891 would add a four-year sunset on PATRIOT Act
section 505, National Security Letters.
SA 2892 would prevent the FBI from using section 215 for "fishing
expeditions" by requiring a connection between records sought and a foreign
terrorist or spy.
SA 2893 would allow businesses and libraries to pose a meaningful challenge
to a FISA Court order or a National Security Letter demanding customer records.

SA 2894 would reduce initial notification deadline in section 213, "sneak
and peek" searches, from 30 days to 7 days, while preserving the ability to go
to court for extensions if needed.
SA 2897 would make third-parties' ability to challenge gag orders more
meaningful.
In summary, we want our senators and representatives to:

Keep the debate going on the reauthorization of the PATRIOT Act by voting
against cloture (Senate only);
Take out the new provisions of the PATRIOT Act;
Vote against the Sununu amendments;
Vote for (and urge their colleagues to vote for) the Feingold, Bingaman,
Leahy amendments.

Stop the Patriot Act!
   
  Bush thugs-in-Congress will be pushing for a vote this week.
   
  This will set up a police state to enslave the American people and will let 
Bush off the hook for the illegal spying on Americans.
   
  We MUST pressure all of our representatives ASAP!!
   
  Excerpts from the ACLU:
  Passage of the reauthorization bill will actually make matters worse for 
civil liberties in significant ways:
  The government will still be able to use National Security Letters and 
secret court orders under section 215 to obtain a wide array of private, 
confidential records  including medical, financial, library and bookstore and 
gun purchase records  with no evidence linking those records to a suspected 
terrorist or spy. 
   
  Those records demands still contain an automatic and potentially permanent 
gag order, and the right to challenge the gag order is made virtually illusory 
by the bills requirement that a court accept the governments "national 
security" certification supporting a gag order as "conclusive."

  Secret physical searches of homes and offices will remain available in any 
federal case under a vague standard, and notice can be delayed for weeks, 
months or even longer. The Justice Department admits that at least 88% of such 
searches actually had nothing to do with terrorism.
   
  Roving wiretaps still lack the requirement to name a target or a facility 
being monitored and without the safeguard that government agents verify that a 
suspect is actually using the facility before eavesdropping on private 
conversations.
   
  The bill contains many other provisions, unrelated to the Patriot Act, that 
harm civil liberties  for example, it expands the Secret Services power to 
impose "exclusion zones" to apply to non-Presidential events, and it increases 
fines and criminal penalties the Treasury Department has used to coerce 
non-profits and other businesses into checking employees against flawed 
government lists. 
  Nearly 400 communities and the legislatures of seven states have taken a 
strong stand for meaningful reforms of the Patriot Act, urging Congress to 
renew the law only if its most significant flaws were addressed. As a result of 
these calls for reform, many members of Congress on both sides of the aisle 
came together to lead an effort to better protect civil liberties. In an era 
marked by partisanship, these bipartisan efforts on behalf of civil liberties 
were remarkable in their own right, twice forcing delays in approval of a 
flawed reauthorization bill.
   
  The agreement (by Republicans) reached with the administration accomplishes 
little of substance...
   
  None of the changes to the final conference report addresses the fundamental 
flaws of the Patriot Act  the flaws that led to the nationwide movement to 
correct it. 
   
  PFAW says: 
  "This deal means that the government can continue to legally demand your 
library and hospital records, even if you did nothing wrong."

Among other major concerns, the compromise version of the bill fails to 
substantively reform Section 215 which allows federal agents to demand records 
from libraries, bookstores, hospitals and other businesses after meeting an 
unacceptably low standard of evidence. According to the text of the 
legislation, the government can continue to conduct such a search without 
presenting any evidence that the target is suspected of wrongdoing. People For 
the American Way has urged Congress to raise the standard in order to protect 
the privacy of innocent Americans.

"In light of Attorney General Gonzales recent testimony on the Bush 
Administrations illegal warrantless wiretapping program, the American public 
has no reason to believe that the government will exercise restraint in its 
behavior."

concentration it is more important than ever to preserve fresh voices in the 
news and arts that is at the heart of public access.

SORRY Mistakes in last email re what numbers to call.  This email has 
correct 
one.

CSPAN must reverse its late Friday afternoon decision to not broadcast 
Saturdays Bush Step Down Demonstration.

This week, every major network broadcast Bushs State of the Union 
address  an aggressive and unrelenting assertion of his program of war, 
torture, spying, and war on the poor, abortion and secularism in 
government.  The answer offered to the public was a Democratic Party 
rebuttal  which essentially opposed none of it!

Increasingly there is no platform for any voice of real opposition.  
And now CSPAN, one of the few media sources for public information, has 
made an 11th hour decision to silence it. Is CSPAN heeding the Bush 
administrations advice to watch what you say?

It is imperative that these views be heard  and a demonstration that 
is the first ever to bring to Washington, DC the demand for this 
President to step down be broadcast.

Call and email CSPAN NOW.  Tell your friends and e-lists to do the
