[lace] Looking for information about lace software

2003-11-30 Thread Clare Settle
I'm trying to reach the vendor of Knipling 2.4 (www.knipling.de) so I can
purchase the software, and have not received a response. Does anyone know
whether the vendor is still selling this software, and, if he is, how to
reach him?

Hi Jean and David,
That is great news! I always look forward to your Advent calendar. I start
each day (even at work) by opening your calendar and counting down the days
to Christmas. Thanks for taking the time and effort to mount it on your
Website.
Seasons greetings and happy lacemaking,

[lace] Lace Guild Web Site Advent Calendar 2003

2003-11-30 Thread Jean Leader
Tomorrow is the first day of Advent, and the annual Lace Guild Web
Site Advent Calendar will be viewable (at least the first window). As
usual there is a competition with prizes.

It's all fairly obvious, but, just in case, once again:

1. The url is in the signature. The link to the advent calendar is a
little graphic with a Holly leaf next to the main title, and is
entitled 'Advent Calendar' ('Calendrier de l'Avent' in French, for
which Josette Martin-Favelier has once again provided a translation).

2. The calendar has 24 windows. You can only open a window on or
after the relevant day in December. (This is done by Javascript, so
if you can't open the windows at all check that scripting is enabled
in your browser or email me for help.)

3. Each window has a wee lace picture (simple pleasures!).

4. Three of the windows have links to small seasonal bobbin lace
patterns. If you are running Internet Explorer the days with links
will be obvious from the cursor changing from the pointer to a hand.
(If you are running Netscape or Mozilla this will not be obvious as
all days will show a cursor hand - the days with links are 3rd, 5th
and 11th.) There will be plenty of time to make the lace items to
hang on your Christmas tree or whatever.

5. The competition this year (with prizes of *real* Lace Guild
calendar or a Christmas bobbin) is simply (oh so simple for some) to
identify the type of lace in six of the pictures.

The page will be slow to load the first time, but, as long as you
don't clear your cache, should load quickly on subsequent occassions.
If you have any problems let me know, if possible indicating whether
you are using Windows or Mac, and what browser (Explorer or Netscape
or Mozilla or whatever) and which version (try the 'about' menu item.)

Have fun,

David (webmaster) and Jean (who did the hard work of finding the
pictures and making the lace samples.)

[lace] bobbins

2003-11-30 Thread Bernard Kurz
Is there a website for the corian bobbins, where we can see the bobbins
instead of waiting for them to come up on e-bay? Does Barry Pawson have a
catalog?
  Thanks,

[lace] NEC

2003-11-30 Thread nicky.h-townsend
Hi Spiders
Organised a coach to the NEC this year, a very early start for some as the
coach made its first pick up at 6.15 am but we arrived at the NEC just
before 11.00 am. The trip went without any hitches until we arrived at the
NEC, despite having previously arranged and received an authority notice
which should have allowed Alvyne, our coach driver to drop us off outside
the hall, as he has done previous years, he was not allowed to do this. We
were sent directly to a car park no shuttle service in sight, pouring with
rain and one or two older ladies who really did not need this grief, so had
to do quite a bit of apologising. I was not a happy bunny at this point -
(have suffered a few too many fools this week!), but I thought it wiser to
avoid the organisers office for a while to allow my annoyance to subside a
little. I did have words later John ford was most understanding and
apologetic and told us that we could arrange for the coach to pick us up out
front - what fun that was - several NEC jobsworths didn't like that idea one
little bit, didn't want to raise the barrier - so my husband, to put it
politely, had words. I feel a letter coming on...

Apart from this we had a brilliant day, as did the 34 ladies that came on
the trip. I was able to obtain some German hooded bobbins from
Kloeppelcentre Langendorf, which I want to learn to use correctly - anyone
got any hints and tips on this - I did miss the fact that there were not
more suppliers from Europe could this be to do with the Euro? Will just have
to make up for it when we go to Tonder for the lace festival next June. Was
able to commission some holiday commemoratives to be made with a couple of
the bobbin suppliers - looking forward to seeing the Golden Gate Bridge, a
cable car and Yosemite's Half Dome at sunset, Death Valley etc on bobbins,
brings back nice memories while making my lace.

It was lovely to meet up with Jessie Caunt in the afternoon, Jessie was one
of the founding members of Suffolk Lacemakers, earlier this year she moved
away to be nearer her daughter, she is greatly missed by us here in Suffolk
but it is nice to know that she has been able to join a group local to her
new home and is still enjoying her lacemaking.

It was also a pleasure to meet fellow spider Korwyn, who travelled with us,
thank you so much for the card Korwyn, the tatted snowflake is just s
pretty, will hang it on our tree at Christmas.

Was it my imagination or were there fewer people there on Saturday, it just
didn't seem to be as busy as in previous years? We were able to stop and
chat with suppliers with a little more ease this year. Anyway, we had a good
journey home, everyone very pleased with their purchases and our NEC novices
really enjoyed their first visit to the Lace fair and are probably looking
forward to the next one.
Here's to the Christmas Lace Suppliers Fair 2004. Thank you John and
Jennifer for all your hard work organising the event and thank you to all
the suppliers who attend and make it such an enjoyable and good hearted
day.

Nickya very tired bunny in Suffolk, where it has been beautiful sunshine
if a little cool.

[lace] Re: [lace] La Dame á Licorne/silver thread raffle

2003-11-30 Thread Andrea
Sorry this message is "late" on the list. I am just catching up with my
E-mails. There is a web site that features medieval buttons, trims, and
real metal threads for embroidery, http://www.tlbarnes.com/asp/default.asp.
I know the people but have no association to the site nor the business.
There are great people buy from.

Ooops--I didn't think to add that to the description. I used a .75 mm for
the motifs (that's what I carry in my bag most of the time) and a .60 mm
for the background.
