Re: [lace] The Horror Kit
That thing should be made illegal!! I got that when I was first learning and was so incredibly frustrated that I nearly gave up trying to learn altogether. Luckily, I found some sites online that allowed me to purchase proper equipment and books. While I'm still not very good at least I no longer want to throw everything as far as it will go. --- Ruth in OK John OConnor wrote: Hi, Evening Stitches is selling the horror kit on e-bay. [lace] Joining Bucks Point

The strip is too short to double it back and repin the end at the top and sew together normally. How about making a very small roller pillow, i.e. 5 inch circumference? Pin the lace on using doll house nails. Then pin the whole thing to your normal pillow or a piece of styrofoam and sew together normally. (Years ago I made a whole lot of 1/12th scale bobbin lace and doll house nails made wonderful tiny pins.) [lace] Re: ring thing
Could the coupler be similar to the connectors used in drip sprinkler systems? For that matter, could you use 1/4" drip tubing (comes in colors: black, white, terra cotta, green)? And if you are using the tubing from a cannula, there is another part of it that is like a miniature elongated cone that fits securely over the tip of a pair of 3.5" scissors. [lace] Joining Bucks Point
I'm making a very small strip of Bucks (Waratah from Elwyn Kenn's Point Ground Patterns from Australia) to go round the top of a little lavender bag. The whole strip will only be about 5 inches long. Question - how do I join the end back to the beginning to make a continuous strip? The strip is too short to double it back and repin the end at the top and sew together normally. It's not a competition piece or needing to be done in a "traditional" fashion. I thought of doing an extra repeat of the pattern and overlapping, but maybe that would be too bulky on such a tiny item. My only idea is to finish off across the end (which is on a straight diagonal) like they do with Brugges lace, with the row of single knots down and back up, then cut all the threads short after I had whipped the two ends together. Any other ideas? Re: [lace] gimp and gimpless machine lace
Hi All, Thank you Patty for sharing this interesting experiment! It's fascinating to see the lace without the gimp. http://community.webshots.com/user/arachne2003-date I'll be looking at my machine laces with new eyes! [lace] Self pub notes
This year I was again asked to talk about self publication. I have compiled some notes based on my own experiences. It might be helpful for those who are thinking about publishing at home. Remember to do your research. Decide if publishing at home is for you. Know your market, clients, and vendors. This is presented as a guideline and in no way represents any hard fast rules. There are notes on copyright issues and we have all seen that discussion in detail from time to time. I am only talking from my own experiences. The formula for pricing is again a guideline. It may differ in your geographical and economical region. It will also change as the economy changes. www.domesticarts.com/selfpub.htm Dianna Stevens Kent Washington, USA www.domesticarts.com - To unsubscribe send email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] containing the line: unsubscribe lace [EMAIL PROTECTED] For help, write to [EMAIL PROTECTED]
[lace] lace ring
>2) I understand there is a Ring thing that works even better than the Green Horseshoe, and that it has extensions to make larger rings. Does anyone know of these? Can you point me in the right direction to find them, please? - and perhaps give me it's correct name! Maybe somebody who attended our AGM still hasn't cleaned out their goodies bag yet (I did 'cos I needed it to travel to Perth last week) but there was an advert in it for just this same thing. So please, Helene and others, dig deep to find the info for Liz if you can. Bye for now, Shirley T - Yes, I saw it. It's sold by Moravia. I'll bring the pamphlet to the lacemaking day on Saturday, Liz...if I haven't chucked it out, since I don't plan to buy one. [lace] Hungarian visit
Dear Dora, thank you for the report on your visit. I have printed it out (in B&W,only, unfortunately, those costumes are magnificent!) to give to my lacemaker friend who is Hungarian and came to the AGM to learn how to make Halas lace. She will love it. Helene, the froggy from Melbourne Find local movie times and trailers on Yahoo! [lace] gimp and gimpless machine lace
Patty wrote: http://community.webshots.com/user/arachne2003-date Wow, thanks for that experiment, Patty!! It certainly looks different without the gimp, doesn't it? The gimp really lifts it and make it so much more beautiful to look at! I will try to remember that lesson in my own handmade lace!
