Re: [lace] wreath storage bags aka lace pillow carrying case

2006-12-04 Thread Alice Howell
Yes, I have the wreath bag sold by Lowes last year.
They have one again this year -- same thing except the
picture/greetings on the side is different. The Lowes
version does not have a plastic window in it. The
price was about $8.00 last year.

I think I tried the Rubbermaid version first, which
was very well made, but returned it. There is an
insert that goes around the narrow side to stiffen
it. With the insert in place, my 24" pillow would not
fit inside it. The 24" was the outside measurement,
not inside.

The green (or red) solid plastic case, without any
window or stiffening insert, does hold 24" inside. It
is 5-1/2" thick, deep enough to hold two pillows for
storage.

At JoAnn's fabric and craft store last year, I saw the
same thing in autumn colors for Autumn Wreaths. It
might be a bit too late this year to catch one on a
clearance sale.

After Christmas, the Lowe's bags were half price.

If you don't mind the Christmas message on your
storage bag, the wreath bag works well for the large
pillow.

rainfall in November, plus some snow.

[lace] Re: Crazy keyboard

2006-12-04 Thread Tamara P Duvall

Gentle Spiders,

Sorry for cross-posting, but I want to call my alarm for help off as
soon as possible :)
Within seconds of posting on chat, I got this response from
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:

do you have a little flag up on the right-hand side of the top bar?
Mine is the Stars and Stripes indicating that I am using a US keyboard
configuration (rather than the Canadian version). If it is anything
else, try clicking on it and seeing what options it gives you.

Ah... Indeed... :) What seems to have happened, is that one of the
keyboard options I have below that top bar has inserted itself instead
of the US flag. Perversely -- but isn't that how things *always*
happen? -- it's the flag that I didn't mean to have there at all; the
Czech one :) It seems obstinate in other ways as well; sometimes, I'll
have the US flag "blued" in the menu below the top bar, but it's still
the Czech flag which will appear in the top bar. And, sometimes, I'll
switch to the US flag and it'll flip itself back to the Czech one.

A nuisance, but, at least, I know what to look for... :) [EMAIL PROTECTED];
I don't think I know who you are (can't remember that username/address)
but you have my heartflt thanks all the same!

If you don't have a flag then you may need to go to System Preferences
and find the setting for your keyboard (could be under International).
 Good luck :-)

I need to go to Systems Preferences anyway, hunt those things up and
remove that Czech flag.

[lace] Christmas Card Exchange website

2006-12-04 Thread Jenny Brandis

Hello from your 2006 Christmas Card website person :)

To date I have heard from 14 lace makers that they have sent their 17
Christmas cards and have emailed their photos or scans of the lace to
me at [EMAIL PROTECTED] to be included in the 2006 Arachne
Christmas Card Exchange website.

Most people have said where their idea/pattern/inspiration comes from
and I have also received scans of the prickings of some of the
original designs. Well done ladies, this is what makes Arachne such a
wonderful group, our willingness to share our knowledge.

The website is at www.brandis.com.au/2006.index.html but will not
have the photos available until closer to Christmas. This is so that
the far flung members have a chance of receiving their cards before
they are visible on the website. In the meantime, the site does have
a few tutorials to assist you in sending your photos and scans.

Remember to scan or photograph your work before posting it, or asking
the recipient to do so. Email the files to me for the website and if
you have designed your own lace - please consider including the
pricking for inclusion in the site.

I have had the great pleasure of meeting weekly with a local lacemaking group
here in Belgium, located in the town of Ath. Many of the ladies carry a bag
similar to this although none are this thick at 7inches. When I inquired
where they had purchased them the answer was the local fishing store! They
are bags made for fishing nets. I've not yet had the chance to get by the
fishing shop, so I have no idea of price comparison but I wondered if this
wreath bag would be similar.
It would be nice to have a more secure way to transport my lace pillow back
and forth to lace classes. The waterproof aspect is nice too.

Hi Dona,

I bought a similar bag last year for traveling to IOLI convention
with. Mine was a little more expensive (but not by much), and was
made by Rubbermaid. I think the handle on mine was sturdier, and I
checked it on the airline as luggage and it went fine! I cut a piece
of cardboard to cover up the plastic window, and stuffed clothes
around the extra spaces.

I take it yours wouldn't be used for such travel needs, but it should
serve quite well for carrying your pillow back and forth to lace
groups. And at those prices, it's worth a gamble.

SV: [lace] tatting in the Netherlands (dutch) to Helen

2006-12-04 Thread Eva Siding

hallo Helen,
kennen.
Haar adres staat op onze site.
We hebben nml een nederlandse site:
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Frivolitekring/
bij on line shops.
 http://www.heikina-de-ruijter.com/pages/into_0001pag.html
is gratis.

[lace] The Last Knit

2006-12-04 Thread lucieduf
Wow! I really needed that laugh! Oh, have I ever been there, and knitting
too! One Alpaca wool scarf of my husband's that was knit in sheatland
pattern at 14 stitches an inch, doubled sided, took a year to knit at
about an inch in length per 6 hour session. The neverending scarf got
finished on the train trip across Canada that we took when we moved from
Vancouver to Ottawa (6 days with a stayover in a hotel when the train's
brakes froze during the cold snap of '88 and we had to wait for them to
unfreeze). Canada, oh Canada, your name is winter.
