[lace] Doris, and Too many pairs,

2011-06-04 Thread Elizabeth Ligeti
Firstly, - Doris said " I am so pleased to have been a part of it."
Doris, - we are All pleased that you have been, and still are, a "part of
it". We owe you, and those other early lacemakers who wrote books, a Huge
"Thank you", as without you many of us would not be here making lace!
I am sorry you are no longer able to make lace, but I am so please you are a
part of this list, and that we hear from you, as I am sure your knowledge is
still far a head of many of us, and I know you are so generous with sharing
with us.

David - at the very first workshop I ever went to, when I was still not far
off being a beginner, - the main thing I brought home with me was 3 little
words - "Cheat when Necessary"!!! they have stood me in good stead ever
since!! So Yes, if you can't go back as far as where the error happened -
then cut off, - and when you find you are a pair short - just add in a new
pair!!! Only You will know, I am sure!!!

Regards from a rather Radical Liz in Melbourne, Oz.

[lace] Lacy Bicycle Basket

2011-06-04 Thread Jeriames
Gift idea for a lacer's bicycle, from an ad on page 17 of June issue of
Traditional Home magazine, USA:

About our selection of bike baskets
Here we offer a unique, well-made Scandinavian bike basket. The designer
of this bike basket was inspired by her Swedish grandmother's crocheted
table cloths. Decorative Things loves fabric so much that this fabric inspired
bike basket was a natural addition to our collection! Besides being the
prettiest bike basket we've ever seen, it is also extremely well designed to
be in tune with a biker's needs. The bike basket sits above the front tire
to allow for easy access while riding or stopped and for the cyclist to keep
an eye on the bike basket's contents without being distracted. The basket
attaches and detaches easily and comes with a strap that allows you to use
the bike basket as a tote when you stop to go to the farmer's market or for
a picnic... We offer the bike basket in black and green so you can choose
the color that matches your frame the best. A perfect bike basket for city
or country. Must have travel accessories for a biker!

You may go to _http://www.decorativethings.com_
(http://www.decorativethings.com) and you might see it in the first row of
pictures that pops up.
If not, put "Bike basket" in search box.

It is almost as expensive as real lace! Since it is "Scandinavian", it
may be available in Europe.

My Canadian granddaughter in law has just sent me an article which
appeared in CAmagazine about Louise Senecal, who as many of you know
is now the president of OIDFA after years with the Association des
Dentellieres du Quebec. Here is the link, which I think you will find
interesting:

Re: [lace] Point ground question

2011-06-04 Thread Sue Duckles
My philosophy (or is it Maureen's??) is simple Can you live with
it? If not then by all means take it back, if you can, then carry on
regardless!! Maureens favourite phrase (apart from "I saw me do that"
ask her, not me)... is 'can you fudge it??'

[lace] Have I had a good idea or do you already do it?

2011-06-04 Thread Jean Nathan

I currently use a ruler.

There are some clunky square wooden Wraps Per Inch Gauges intended for
weavers, some with the wraps for different yarn thickness printed on, some
with rings which could be used as key rings, for sale all over the net. I
just thought this would be an attractive use for an unused bobbin. I do like
my tools to be appealing to look at.Yes, I know they don't work any better,
but attractive things make me feel good.

I have several Bucks bobbins that I don't use.The necks on those are quite
thick and probably about a inch long, but I have to dig them out to find
out.
