[lace] thread substitutions
Hello All! Will wonders never cease! While investigating some needlepoint threads, what should I find in Brenda's book? The other threads. LOL What a handy resource I'm so glad I ordered it. Did I miss Vineyard Silks (Wiltex) or are they filed under another name? Re: [lace] thread substitutions
Vineyard Silks / Wiltex is not a brand I have ever heard of, let alone get my hands on some to measure! So unless anyone knows of another name for them they are not listed in 'Threads for Lace'. [lace] UK Lace Guild magazine
I have replied to Pene personally. There is a difference in the posting/delivery times for magazines sent abroad, so the fact that those of us in the UK have received ours might not help to see if there has been a hold up somewhere. I've asked Pene to keep me informed as I shall be at The Hollies later in the week - in the meantime, can any members in Australia, or other far flung places, confirm (off list, to me, might be better) whether they have received their magazines yet? I think what is happening now, with the new distributor, is that all of the magazines are being sent out at the same time, whereas before the overseas copies went out a few days earlier so that all were received around the same time. It can take 4 to 10 days to get from the UK to the old Zone 2 countries, so it may be that these magazines are still in the postal system somewhere. In return, can anyone else in the UK who ordered the French stamps let me know if they have received theirs yet - I'm wondering if there has been a delay in sending those out? Re: [lace] thread substitutions
Thanks Brenda for your speedy reply! I hadn't heard of this stuff before this week either. Vineyard Silks were included in my needlepoint kit (14 count canvas), are about the size of DMC #3 perle have a very soft twist. The Wiltex company is in Massachusetts where they also make other silks a Merino wool product. The silk is Chinese, quite lustrous easy to stitch with; I haven't tried the other silks or wool yet. We didn't get full skeins, just enough strands to work the painted canvas but I will be glad to forward some when I am finished have leftovers. Otherwise, I'll check in Florida cut from a new skein so let me know how much you need for a test strip. When I checked their website, it looks like their threads are only available in the US. :-( I am curious how this product would work up in a larger scale piece of modern lace--primarily because of the luster, hand draping characteristics. They claim it doesn't pill so it would make a lovely scarf. !
