[lace] Sad news
I am very sad to relay to you all that Betty Ann Rice died last night about 8:45. Betty Ann lived in Roanoke, VA with the love of her life, husband/boyfriend Clive. She learned to make lace in England when she was stationed there with the Navy. After returning to the US, Betty Ann continued to learn, and to teach others. She formed the Blue Ridge Lace Guild, and brought many enthusiastic lacemakers into the magic of lace. She was directly responsible for the formation of the Cardinal Lace Guild in Lynchburg, as she had taught the original members who later decided to form their own group closer to home. Betty Ann was known for her outgoing personality, her marvelous sense of humor, and her dedication to friends and family. She was also known for her voice - which had a distinct personality of its own, and was never mistaken for someone else!! Betty Ann had open heart surgery a month ago, and returned to her home on Good Friday. On Easter Sunday, she collapsed, and was rushed back to the hospital. She will be missed by all who loved her. Oops! Our birthday is boldly written in my calendars for several years as being April 12. I put the wrong month in the subject line. So sorry. We could celebrate again in June! Re: [lace] Sad news
I too have enjoyed Betty Ann's messages over the years and will miss her wit and southern charm, which we both chuckled about over some personal emails. I told her of my grandson who was 2 1/2 years old when he had open heart surgery last May and how he was smiling and ready to rock and roll on the 3 rd day. I am so sorry she did not have the same wonderful results. I will miss her postings. Please extend my condolences to Clive and her family. [lace] Sad News
I have posted a happy photo of Betty Ann Rice on my Arachne wesbshots page, link below. She had such a lovely sense of humor and I loved to hear her hill-billy accent (said fondly). She is wearing what was the table center at this meal on her head. This photo is one that often pops up on our tv screen while we listen to the radio over Apple tv. Last weekend when her photo was on the screen, I mentioned to my DH that Betty had had heart surgery and I hoped she was doing well. I am so sorry that we have lost such a wonderful lacemaker, the world is poorer for the loss and we were lucky to know her. http://community.webshots.com/album/149126673AmIpMo?start=12 Janice Janice Blair Crystal Lake, 50 miles northwest of Chicago, Illinois, USA www.jblace.com http://www.lacemakersofillinois.org - To unsubscribe send email to majord...@arachne.com containing the line: unsubscribe lace y...@address.here. Re: [lace] Sad news
How very sad! I know that we will all miss her very much. It is so interesting to see that the lace seeds Betty Ann planted really spread so far. We need to all try to remember that when we feel that what we do does not matter. [lace] Sad news.
That is Very sad news about Betty Ann Rice. I am so sorry. Please pass o0n my condolences to her family, Clay. I met her in Denver IOLI convention, when I sat at her table - for the Arachne lunch, I believe. My husband came home from hospital yesterday, after open-heart surgery, so reading of Betty's outcome was not real good, on a different level from her passing. There is getting to be quite a community of great lacemakers up there in the clouds, isn't there?
