Re: [lace] Video with Brief Feature of Alencon Lace
Hello Lacefriends, yesterday I got the new book from Martina Wolter-Kampmann. What belongs the threads and their thickness it's a renewed version of the Faden and Brief. She ordered the brand names alphabetical which i think is better. And the book has a spiral as back which is much more comfortable to handle it. It is available in Germany, USA, Switzerland and Denmark and under . www.wolter-kampmann.de/verlag Greetings Ilske - To unsubscribe send email to majord...@arachne.com containing the line: unsubscribe lace y...@address.here. [lace] Invisible
I have just bought Martine Wolter-Kampmann's book called Invisible and it is really fascinating. I have been experimenting with some of her techniques and it really sets one thinking about invisible finishes. Jeanette Fischer, Western Cape, South Africa. [lace] OIDFA Lappets book .. errata on 14
I love the new OIDFA Lappets book, but I have to report one problem. If you have the book, you might make a note. Pattern 14 is incomplete. There's up to an inch of pattern missing at connection 3. One side is a couple centimeters shorter than the other side of the connecting line. The rest of the pattern is rough. Pin lines are crooked and pattern features on one side of a lappet don't match shape/size of the mirror image features on the other side. This whole pattern needs redrawn, and I may attempt it at a later date if no one else does it. I do like the pattern. The rest of the patterns seem to be well drawn, trued up, and complete. If you are hoping to make up one of these patterns, please choose from 1 to 13 and skip pattern 14. You will be much happier (until a redrawn pattern if available). Since I want to get started soon, I think I'll switch to pattern 11. It has different challenges but should still be fun. Re: [lace] lappets books
- Original Message - From: Lorelei Halley lhal...@bytemeusa.com What style are the lappets? Point ground, Mechlin? Lorelei The lappets of Hermannsburg, Germany, were mostly considered to be Erzgebirge Guipure. The opinion of the people studying them were that they came from a variety of regions. Unmarried girls wore a long, narrow double lappet (two lappets connected in the center) as a headband, tied in the back. Most old lappets like this had damage in the area that would have been tied. When married, they changed to a double lappet with a large diamond area at the top of the head, called a fanchon. Since most ladies were buried with their marriage fanchons, not many remain to be studied. The narrow lappets remained in the cupboards because they weren't worn after marriage. The book has an interesting history on the bonnets and lappets that were worn, and why fashion changed from one to the other. Even if you never want to make a lappet, the history part of the book makes a good read. [lace] lessons in Spain?
It's been a VERY long time since I've written here. I am extremely interested in taking some bobbin lace classes in Spain - if near Madrid it would be helpful for lodging, but not a necessity. Does anyone have a recommendation? Know of some good teachers for a relatively moderate level bobbin lacer? The language is not an issue, as ¡hablo español! Thank you in advance for any advice anyone might have. MariCarmen Pinckney - To unsubscribe send email to majord...@arachne.com containing the line: unsubscribe lace y...@address.here. [lace] California poppy project
I heard that producing a book might be very difficult with so many participants having to give permission for the reproduction of the lace and organising it. Who would get to keep the royalties? It would make a very good eye candy book though. Janice don't know anything about a BOOK! Catherine Barley UK Subject: Re: [lace] California poppy project That project HAS to be a book. Who is doing it? Do we know yet? Needs very good pictures. But I think those exist. Should be an excellent ambassador for the art.
