Hi All It is a shame that people break copyright. I for one am more than willing to share my patterns, but do like to have the credit for them. I suppose all we can do is be vigilant and hope that we win out in the end. Gentle Spiders Has anyone received their April 2013 copy of "Lace"? I only re-joined the Lace Guild last year so not sure if the April issue is held back these days so as to include a report on the Convention. Otherwise is there a problem? - No mention on their website "Stop Press" or on the Facebook page. I had just read Hazel's message asking whether anyone had received their April 2013 magazine, and I went to the mailbox and there it was. Posted on April 26th. Malvary in Ottawa where it is spring. Flowers are blooming nicely and I was out without a coat today. Overseas copies are posted out from The Hollies a few days earlier than the UK copies which, because of the quantity, are sent out via a mailing house - the timing of posting is such that everyone should receive their magazine on or as soon as possible after the publication date. There have been a few posts about airfares and how expensive they can be. The New York Times ran an article on how to save money on fares. Check out flights that have more than one stop, with one stop being your actual destination...i.e. this year's IOLI convention. Say you live in Cleveland, OH, find a flight with one stop in Salt Lake City, then it goes on to San Francisco. Sometimes you'll find that booking a 1 stop flight from Cleveland to San Francisco is a lot cheaper than a flight from Cleveland to Salt Lake City. Publication date for April's Lace is 30th April, ie yesterday, so given the occasional vagaries of the postal system I don't count it as late yet (others might disagree!). You should get it within the next day or so, but if you haven't received it by 10th May either email or phone The Hollies (contact details are on the website at www.laceguild.org ). What happens with the April magazine is that it has the renewal form in, so cannot be sent for printing until the members have decided the subscription rate for the new membership year, and with the AGM being in April it is a tight turn around for the printers and mailing house. (This meant having the renewal form ready before the AGM, so that if the recommended subscriptions were not passed it would only need a quick amendment before going to print, thankfully the new rates were approved!). You will also have the Trustees Report and Accounts Summary with this magazine, and a spare membership form (as with the renewal form, these form the centre inserts) to pass on to a friend - we need new members! On the back of both of these forms you will find direct debit forms - the new year will see a reduction in subscriptions for those in the UK paying by this method, but we need to have the applications back by 31st May so that they can be processed before the renewal date of 1st July. A copy of the membership application form is available on the website. Any reports on convention (we welcome submissions from members!) and the minutes of the AGM will be in the July issue - it would delay the April magazine far too much to attempt to include them then. In other words, you won't be able to board your return flight at Salt Lake City. An alternative would be to book two one-way flights, one from home to San Francisco, the other from Salt Lake City to somewhere beyond home. However, one 1-way ticket can be a lot more money than a round trip! Two 1-way tickets would be ridiculously expensive. Robin P.
