Re: [lace] Lace luggage + Idea !

2013-06-02 Thread Adele Shaak
Hmm. What fun accessories. I loved so many of them, and there was a lot more
lace when I clicked around for a while. I much preferred this hat:

plus, of course, the shoes:

http://www.victoriantradingco.com/store/catalogimages/1a/i19344I.html

And don't worry - I don't think it's 'doing an honest trader out of their
custom' to look at something and say I could make that, or something like it.
I'll give it a go. It's not like you're buying the hat and then taking it
apart and making a copy (which *is* illegal). You're just being inspired.

which surely most of us have enough odd bits of lace to produce for
ourselves? (If we don't live in the U.S.A., that is, not wanting to do an
honest trader out of their custom.) At least, I think I could make one for
myself if I knew how to fasten together the fabric crown and the straw brim .
. . Any thoughts? It would be a great way to give new life to old hats that
have suffered a little damage, and have something that would go easily into a
 suitcase when travelling.

A similar basic hat was offered on QVC a couple years ago, in ecru. I
added some tatted ecru lace, so it would go with most clothing. Tatting is
not likely to wrinkle as much as some other laces, and is stronger. Hat is
fun to wear, and folds flat (inside out) for packing. It was with me at
the Caen OIDFA Congress last Summer..

This described tatted piece is called Frivolite Pin on
_www.tattedwebs.com_ (http://www.tattedwebs.com) . It is in two shades of
ecru. Elaine is
always overly-busy, selling at juried craft shows. She does not need
publicity from me.

I take Elaine's small tatted items with me to give as gifts at lace
conventions. Yes! Yes! I know that OIDFA focuses on only bobbin and needle
laces. However, noone has ever turned down a pretty gift of tatting.

Re: [lace] Need help with Brigitte Bellon pattern

2013-06-02 Thread Vila Cox
So excited! I picked up the lace pillow again tonight. A few days ago
I had figured out how to leave the loop and work the rose ground, so
tonight I finished enough of that to tackle the big stumbling block of
sewings as I worked the next section. It all came together this time.
I did shread the first thread using a crochet hook that is too small.
But that can be fixed. I put a picture on my Flickr account. I'm
looking forward to finishing and wearing this scarf.

Thank you all for your suggestions and encouragement! It is really
going to work up pretty quickly once I get more practice on this pattern.

I think that you have to keep working, because it does not look as if there
are pairs missing. Ask again if you arrive to a problem later, but you
should not have it. The patterns of this book are very accurate and in
torchon everything matches.

Keep telling us if these explanations were useful for you.

Best luck! And don't cut the lace off! AS soon as you overcome this part,
you will see it is not difficult at all.
