[lace] Book review, in fine style...
Thank you for that book review, Jeri. It sounds wonderful. Oh dear! Our $ has just dipped badly against the £, so it will have to be relegated to my wish list!! In fact the whole exhibition sounds fantastic. Fancy being able to see a collar, in the flesh so to speak, similar to those shown in the King Charles' painting. How wonderful to think that one has survived. [lace] Apology: Church museum in Antwerp
I apologize if there was a wrong information about the church museum in Antwerp. But lucky enough people on the list seems to know the info on this museum well. I went there on a private tour. I suggested to Elizabeth Kurella that I can arrange an appointment for such a private tour for her. The private tour can be done except on Wednesday. That made the confusion. - To unsubscribe send email to majord...@arachne.com containing the line: unsubscribe lace y...@address.here. For help, write to arachne.modera...@gmail.com. [lace] Tonder Lace Festival
Yesterday, after speaking to a fellow Estonian lace friend who attended the Tonder Lace Festival a few weeks ago, I was wondering if any Arachneans, who also were there, were going to post about their impression of the event. Has anyone posted photos? Apparently, my Estonian friends were quite often asked about Penelope! Happy Summer Winter Solstice! Re: [lace] Tonder Lace Festival
Pene and all Others back home from Tönder the ache in my right hand become so awful that I couldn't write or do anything else, that's why I didn't send a report to the list. I was there as a day-guest so I can tell you about the coffee-table and the dinner. We arrived friday about midday and I went first to the salesroom which was in two big rooms from Tönderhallerne that tells you how many salesmen there were. I didn't want buy much but I was lucky to meet my friend Tina there. I watched the fashion show from Jana Nowak and Iva Proskova. There were some very interesting ideas for lace-pieces to wear every day. In the corner of the two rooms were small exhibitions from works from U. Voelker, Chantilly laces from the collection from Marianne Stang, laces from Beveren from Nadine Pauwels and things from Karin Hoffritz and Mette Julie Bundsgaard-Nielsen. On my way back to the hotel I visited my competition piece in the exhibition from DKV. In the same house the Visemöllen Annie Westphal and Kirsten Ploug showed works done with willow and bark. Very interesting pieces, some like heads others like baskets. Saturday I visited the exhibition in Drohse's Hus which fill all rooms of the house but like the other times I was there the laces weren't described very well, not to say partly wrong. Than I went to the museum and looked first after the laces and later after painting. There was an exhibition in memoriam Inge Skovgaard. Her book about Tönder lace was a big help for me when I worked on those sort of lace. What impressed me most were jewelerys partly in lace technique partly in an own technique from the artist, Hanne Behrens. Here too the Tönder lace from the museum were described either wrong or underdone. Sunday morning, a very windy and grey one, we travelled slowly back south to Hamburg. Each time I went to the north I want to see the North Sea. Our walk along the Cost was a very sporty one about the very strong wind. Coming nearer to Hamburg the weather become more and more friendly and at home the sun shone brightly. I didn't take any pictures because I want only I relax and enjoy the weekend. - To unsubscribe send email to majord...@arachne.com containing the line: unsubscribe lace y...@address.here. [lace] In Fine Style - Art of Tudor Stuart Fashion
Dear Friends, In Fine Style - The Art of Tudor and Stuart Fashion by Anna Reynolds, What a shame. I was quite prepared to buy this book at £30. But the postage of £46 on top of that made the cost prohibitive. I was not given the option of a cheaper se mail-type rate. This brought the total price up to AUS $127 - pity. Looks a wonderful book though David in Ballarat, AUS - To unsubscribe send email to majord...@arachne.com containing the line: unsubscribe lace y...@address.here. Dear friends, what would I do without you??? Many thanks to the person who recommended I try www.abebooks.co.uk I've no idea how they do it, but the postage from them for this wonderful book is only £1 compared with £46 for the other site I visited. Admittedly the book is a few pounds dearer. But I've been able to buy it for only AUS$68 and it will be posted within 3 days time. Not that I needed another book of course, but Jeri's review sold me.
