Re: [lace] Borrowing lace books from Inter-Library Loan
I have an excellent library and the librarian is very good about searching out books on interlibrary loan. I routinely get books from other states. Usually they are free. Sometimes the librarian calls me and tells me that she has exhausted all the free sources and tells me that the book is available from some source that will cost $10 or $15. Other times she calls first and asks me to set a dollar limit on how much I am willing to pay for borrowing the book before she starts looking on the non-free sites. Sometimes she can't get the book at all. It is considered to be a fee, not a donation. Devon In a message dated 9/10/2013 10:03:10 A.M. Re: [lace] Borrowing lace books from Inter-Library Loan
I have been a user of inter-library loans for quite some time. I've used both university inter-library loans and municipal ones. In NSW where I live there is a charge for using both. The university ones are part of a research budget and I've never seen an account for these. Most recently ie since 2000 or there abouts many books are now scanned and freely available over the web as are journal articles so that need is no longer really there. The municipal ones do incur a small charge, the most recent one cost me a princely sum of $2. Re: [lace] Borrowing lace books from Inter-Library Loan
I chose to live in Illinois because of the great library systems. I'm in Alton IL and my library is Hayner. They've recently combined library districts and I think I can now borrow from any library in the southern half of the state. That's just regular transactions. ILL is wider ranging (I think I borrowed a book from Lawrence, KA) and is free. And my librarians love to get to put the system through its paces. However, many school (college) libraries are not available through Hayner. For those books, I'm taking classes at a local community college and use their ILL, also free.
