[lace] Hedebo
For whatever it is worth, the subject of the changing character of Hedebo embroidery over time was a subject of discussion on another online group I belong to, a few years ago. Stefania Bressan said this: "Hedebo is a Danish embroidery. It has 7 different variations, depending on the period. Hedebo edges, worked in buttonhole, is the oldest variation. Counted Thread work (similar to italian "punto antico") is known from the beginning of the 18th century. Drawn thread work (a net with dove's eye fillings) from the second half of the 18th century. Square cut work (something like a simplified Sicilian drawn thread work) in the first decades of the 19th century. Hvidsom, just after the square cut work, has flowers and tendrils and is the most similar to Schwalm, at least in the designs. Baldyring (1840) has open work filled with needle lace (like reticello). Udklipshedebo (1850) is the most known variation, with cut holes (drops, circles...) filled with needlelace. I've recently bought a catalog from Greve Museum (http://www.grevemuseum.dk) and it is very interesting to see the many different styles in danish embroidery." http://www.pinterest.com/ligijablesic/hedebo-embroidery/ I had some great links describing the historical changes, with how-to information. But the best sites have disappeared off the internet. A tragedy! Lorelei - To unsubscribe send email to majord...@arachne.com containing the line: unsubscribe lace y...@address.here. [lace] Janice Blair's Poppies
Thank you Anna for passing on the information. I am happy to know that it was published in the Australian Lace magazine. Such an easy pattern and a useful one. I am now unpacked in my new home and my little vase of poppies is on show in a glass fronted cabinet. Janice I simply have to publicly thank Janice for being so generous with her poppy pattern. [lace] Scottish Diaspora Tapestry - warning, no actual lace content for those who are interested only in lace
I have spent this afternoon looking at the panels produced for this exhibition. Afterwards I thoroughly enjoyed the talk given by Andrew Crummy, the artist who designed all the panels, plus those in the the 'Battle of Prestonpans' tapestry and the 'Great Scottish Tapestry although this one immediately follows Prestonpans as the same basic team was involved, not just the artist. He explained the design process beginning with a chart which he used for all three, through the information gathering process, the actual designing process which also involved the person who contributed the subject matter of of each panel, the transfer of the design onto linen, choosing the thread and finally sending out the kits to be stitched in ' a' the airts' of the world. There is a book, just out, which I bought: "Scottish Diaspora Tapestry: telling tales to Scotland" by Andrew Crummy et al. Prestoungrange University Press, 2014. 978-0-9575636-5-0 Pbk 15.00 GBP I also treated myself to the Prestonpans book and now I have all three 'tapestry' books to enjoy. No lace content, I know, but of general textile interest. Patricia in Wales - To unsubscribe send email to majord...@arachne.com containing the line: unsubscribe lace y...@address.here. Re: [lace] Lace patterns
This must be true, it's virtually one of the first things Maureen teaches us!! Learn the basic stitches, a basic bookmark, now learn to 'draft'!!! And most of us do NOT get out of it LOL Sue (also in East Yorkshire) On 7 Jun 2014, at 10:02, Maureen wrote: > HI > > I agree Jacquie, it is simple to copy these patterns from the pictures in > the book. > > Maureen > E Yorks UK (where it is currently raining) - To unsubscribe send email to majord...@arachne.com containing the line: unsubscribe lace y...@address.here.
