Dear Liz,
Blame me for the weather reports. I started this conversation. It seems
that different countries have what they call an International Lace Day and
they celebrate at different times of the year. Some are celebrating on
June 21st, which falls on the third Sunday in June this year. This is
Father's Day in some nations this year. I have proposed that we get an idea
of
climates in the countries where lacemakers reside, and try to come up with
*one date that we'll all celebrate* when weather is not extreme.
There is power in numbers, and there would be more opportunities for
Public Relations across national borders if we could come up with an
agreement.
I've recommended Spring or Fall. Some places are reporting extreme
weather even now (one day before the first day of Summer / first day of Winter
below the Equator).
If we can all agree, we can send our respective national representatives
to the OIDFA Congress in Slovenia next year *with one proposed date for an
agreed upon International Lace Day*, and we can recommend that *individual
countries celebrating lace use the word National before their celebrations*.
This all started because a museum in The Netherlands is calling June 21st
International Lace Day, instead of National Lace Day. Some people have
reported this date was also seen somewhere on facebook. Some of us asked who
determined this date. Internationally, we have Arachne and OIDFA where
many people have voices. It would be nice to work this out.
Please, would OIDFA's elected officers and the national representatives
join this exchange of ideas? It would also be nice to hear from the large
national lace guilds throughout the world.

Ladies and Gents,
I would like to suggest that discussions of the weather and holidays (such
as when Father's Day happens) are more appropriate for the lace chat email
group than for the lace group.
Thank you,
