[lace] Book enquiry
Hi Spiders I'm after a book which is no longer in print and my Guild library does not have a copy of it. Does anyone out there know where I can find a copy of it. The book is 'Fascinating Lace' by Claire Burkhard 1986. ISNB is 9783258036106. I've already done a Google search. I want to read the book not necessarily purchase it. If it is in a library, that could be a help, depending on the location, I may be able to visit said library and read it there. Re: [lace] Golden Hands Publications for Today's Golden Hands
Dear Jeri Your email has come through with no confusing quotation marks. Thank you for writing this and for giving permission for it to be reproduced in a local newsletter. I hope to pass this to the editor of our local lace group for publication in our magazine but will ensure that credit is shown to you. Thank you for all the information and research you provide to all of us and for the fact that if we have a query, you are able to answer it. Re: [lace] Sari silk yarn question
Dear Friends. > Salt sets dyes too, but I prefer to use vinegar. The rule of thumb I was taught as a child was that vinegar was for animal fibers (silk and wool), while salt was for plant ones (cotton and linen) While it's been many years since I did any dying, when I did (and it was always homespun wool) I used Alum as a mordant with good effect - certainly much better than salt. I haven't heard it mentioned here yet, but I think if it's OK on wool it's probably OK on silk as well.
