[lace] RE: Lace Survey Results

2016-08-25 Thread Agnes Boddington
Hello Helen
Thanks for doing this "exercise" very interesting results.
May just suggest this to our local group, and see how much (if at all) the
results vary from yours.

Were these posted to Arachne? I've seen a response to them from Agnes but
haven't seen the survey results at all.

[lace] Kimono silk

2016-08-25 Thread Rick & Sharon Whiteley
I have seen this silk, it’s gorgeous ..and the colours, wow. It’s very
fine (capital V). I didn’t buy any though, here it costs an arm and a leg
even if it was from a local supplier. I don’t know how it works up but it
sure is beautiful. Sharon, on Vancouver Island

[lace] Lace at the Olympics Rio Closing Ceremony Full Link

2016-08-25 Thread Jocelyn Froese
Greetings,
I'm resending the Rio lacemakers, attaching the full link in case anyone
had trouble. Finally back at the computer instead of using my phone.

You may be asked to activate Adobe Flash (allow now). It connects for one
time if you don't normally use it for video. Press X on right top corner to
close extra windows in front of the main screen. Go to full screen,
optional. Slide the timeline over to around 2:20:28 to see the lacemaker
walk towards the bolster. The lace segment is about half way through the
program. It's worth the trouble to view this.

Wondering if the Sochi lace is still online somewhere. Perhaps lace will
show up at yet another Olympic ceremony!

like fall...

[lace] Sternchen-Ei

2016-08-25 Thread Susan
Hello All! There's a new issue in my lace world this week. After borrowing
several books from the IOLI library, I wanted to try to make some "eggs" for
our library exhibit next spring. There is a pattern (pg 10) in "Gekloppelte
Ostereier" by Annelies Kirst that looks interesting but it is a ground I do not
recognize. There is a small diagram for Sternchengrund (by Brigitte Bellon)
but no directions. I looked in "The Book of Bobbin Lace Stitches" & there are
some similar stars, but not the one in the Kirst book. Is anyone familiar with
this ground & would you be willing to share the order of the work/stitches?
The diagram makes no sense to me so any suggestions would be most welcome.
BTW--as an update, I was able to successfully use the advice I received last
week for making a backstitch & sewing in the same space. Working in a new
section of my project, I used your picot pin trick to make large pinholes.
What a difference when making sewings! In spite of running o!
ut of thread & various other booboos, I finished a flower outline so I'm
pleased & encouraged to move on & try a fancy leaf. Sincerely, Susan Hottle
