[lace] American Museum in Bath - Decorative Art and Folk Art
Do any of our lace vendors participate in this August sales event in Bath? If so, please let Arachne members know. https://americanmuseum.org/events/textiles-fair-2017/ When you look at the above address, note there will be another sale before Christmas. Is Contemporary Lace your interest? Are you a lace designer? Do not miss looking at the following film and the way color has been used. It is about Bargello, but could be about any thread technique that uses color. https://americanmuseum.org/about-the-museum/exhibitions/joyce-petschek-break ing-the-pattern/ You may wish to read also about the "Quilting Bee". Different British quilt groups meet at the museum every Tuesday. The fine collection of American quilts must offer considerable inspiration to them. Again, use of color. I wonder if this museum would consider lacemaking. You know, something like Ipswich Lace. I have visited this museum several times, and recommend it. Thank you everyone who replied. It sounds like there is much available where my brother and his wife are going which is what I suspected. [lace] 2017 Arachne Motif Exchange
The motifs are now starting to wing themselves across oceans. Hopefully all will be sent off by September 1. Progress has been reported to be right on track with lots of pretty lace pieces finding new homes and bringing pleasure. Don't we enjoy receiving and seeing new lace techniques to add to our collections with love. I am receiving details on each piece so we will be tempted in new venues. Thank you participants for spreading more lace ideas across our membership. I look forward to another exchange again next year. Re: [lace] Rosaline
Thank you Maria. I am also using Ghislaineâs book and I am puzzled by the way she takes the sewings. Looking at the pictures on pages 30 and 31 they appear to be same as the edge sewings we use when making Honiton, however the diagrams pages 34-35 show her taking one thread from the pair approaching the edge and one from the pair leaving the edge, very difficult to separate the two threads of a pair and I wonder why, Jan does not show this method. I was interested in Janâs book because it seems to have more techniques in it and I will now get Judithâs books. Blow the dust, letâs make lace Alex From: Maria Greil Sent: Tuesday, August 1, 2017 4:13 PM To: Alex Stillwell Cc: Arachne questions Subject: Re: [lace] Rosaline Hello Alex, I agree with Bev. There are other books writen in English which are as good as Jan Geelen's. I myself in Europe try to buy bobbin lace books at Barbara Fay Verlag when available. They do not charge post fees to Europe and I do not know how it works all over the world, but I think it is worthwhile asking. I have checked and they have the two books by Judith Cordell: Rosaline Perle and Rosaline Perle 2 ( http://www.barbara-fay.com/index.php/en/component/virtuemart/bobbin-lace/rosa lie-eng?Itemid=0 ). I hope this information helps you. Maria Greil a German living in Spain 2017-08-01 14:58 GMT+02:00 Alex Stillwell: Good afternoon Arachnids It,s now my turn to ask for help. One of my student wishes to learn Rosaline. I have a sound knowledge of Honiton but need to understand the differences between it and Rosaline. We both have âRosaline Perlee by J Geeln 1990â but cannot read it. Has anyone a translation of the instructions of the first few patterns and the accompanying descriptions earlier in the book? I could make a guess as to how to make the patterns but Jan goes into a lot of details and I might misinterpret some of them.
