Dear Ms Aycock:

I have done a bunch on lace (can send pix) until a series of 5 ankle
surgeries, 1 knee, 3 shoulder and 5 spine fusion surgeries (I now am
completely fused from C2- sacrum).

It has been a big mental block for me to sit back down and adjust
lacemaking to my physical realities. I also am just frankly not good at
pushing myself (push myself fine at work but not here, and that probably
says something about me. Came to King of Prussia but ended up back in the
hospital so any confidence I had was replaced by additional titanium rods
in my spine….

Years ago I worked on a project with the late Gunvor Jorgensen, and with
Marni in NELG.

Willing to drive.

My zip is 10804 for location; thank you sincerely,

Carrie

In medicine we have started to preserve books that go out of friends, and it's

Re: [lace] Re: Sign of the times - call for action?

2011-10-15 Thread Carolyn M Salafia
I second this entirely; having lost 14 pounds during my 4 yr divorce and
regained the privilege (!) of shopping with my seventeen yr old daughter in
the juniors section, I am appalled by the short term nature of fabrics that,
at purchase, seem to be lovely to the touch and a good wear. Two careful
hand washes and they're completely "pilly" and look like I've worn them day
and night for months. The nature of fabric has simply changed, along with
the idea that there are "classic clothes" and that such clothes actually
"last"...

I have the laura ashley dress that, fifteen years ago, I cut off the lace
collar and replaced with my own (made with lots of help from certain folks
on this list). I wear it with pride, but the ten years younger mothers of my
kids' friends are "interested", but more insofar as this demonstrates how
much older than them I really am.

When my kids were little I could,as I put it, bore them to sleep at naptime
with the click click click of my bobbins... they should only be so easy to
satisfy now!

best

carrie, whom roberta donnely tried to help dive back into lace a few years
ago, but who knew it would take four years to get my own life back, at least
to the extent it's mine currently :-)

But I should get my act in gear.

[lace] Apologies to the list for the golbal post- Attention especially Adelaide lacemakers

2009-10-01 Thread Carolyn M Salafia
First, apologies to the list for the general posting.

Dear All

The "good news" is that my antidepressant load has dropped by 50%.

Bad news is divorce remains unfinalized and even worse, after Bobbie
Donnelly took the time wto meet me in NYC, it took about 8 weeks to get Jeff
to retie the broken threads and...

I'm still in panic mode and unable to face putting in a pin...

I will be in Adelaide this coming Tuesday through Thursday.

The Adelaide group was kind enough to suggest a meeting; I've been hesitant
based on my own inadequacieis... but apologize to the list in general, and
request any Adelaide lacemakers who would be willing to let me watch THEM do
lace for 30-60 min... sometime between Tues and Thurs of this coming week...

We will be driving from Melbourne Sunday so will have transport.

The very many kindnesses of this list in the past appreciated daily, and
with many thanks in advance

Carrie Salafia

cell phone 914-356-5606 which will be working in OZ. Flying Friday afternoon
from NYC straight to Sydney, connecting to Melbourne and driving to Adelaide
(with colleagues/friends from Perth so we at least don't have horrible
jetlag to complicate our tour on your road system!)
