Re: [lace] IOLI 2015

2015-08-08 Thread Carolyn Salafia
Work related meeting in Brisbane first full week in September. When I asked my
travel agent what there was to see in Brisbane she said how about Sydney? Hmmm

I'm still waiting to get my life back ( last tuition bills for my twins this
fall). I could be an appreciative audience if there are local lacers?

Thanks as always. The list has been a moral support for many years.

The sweet and firm conduct of work me delighted. I was surprised with the

I particularly want to thank Jean Leader. Over the last few years I have been
working through Jean's little Lace Guild book on Bucks Point lace and have at
last finished the final piece short of taking the pins out. I started working
the final pattern, a bookmark, in May last year and managed to get about a
third of the way down by Christmas. In my notes I announced that on 31
December I had got half way and now it is done. I have enjoyed nearly every

backwards, rather a lot at the beginning, less when I got nearer the end.
Thank you Jean, so much, I'm looking forward to choosing the next Bucks Point

The only laces I have on pillows right now is two continous laces.
One is a simple Bucks point edge and the other is a shamrock Torchon edge. It
has been so long since I have touched the Torchon edge that I am not sure how

 Hi Pam,

You are right... there's been no decision on commemoratives yet. Since we
are talking two years out, I don't think we have to make a final decision
yet. The discussion was put out this early in case the group decided on a
lace project that would need lots of lead time.

A few people liked the lace idea but most people seemed to like the bobbins,
shuttles, tools, and maybe even a cover cloth type of commemorative. We
might even have another set of Arachne pins made. I believe that next year
would be the practical time to propose specific bobbins and tools, etc. In
the meantime we can decide if we want a logo... either a special one or use
the one we have had in the past.

I would be in favor of having Roseground as a supplier. You have been part of
Arachne long before there was a Roseground. You are set up to sell online so
currency would not be a big problem.

As to cover cloths, the design could be drawn and be on a website for people
to download, then any embroidery business could apply it to whatever style,
size, or color cloth each person would like. I know there's a sewing store
in my own town that can put any design in their computer and stitch it out.
This is probably true of most cities.

Thanks for the offer. Let's revisit it next year after we celebrate 19
years. In the meantime, let's all find some way to toast Arachen on April 12
for 18 years of Lace and Friendships.

has taught me so much and led me places I would not have otherwise gone.

I am definitely a lurker but do check the list each day! I see that there
has been quite a bit of chat about possibly having a commemorative bobbin to
celebrate 20 years. I organised the 10th Anniversary bobbins - two designs
on East Midlands, Continental and Honiton. We could offer the 20th
anniversary designs via our on-line shopping website (Roseground) thus
 allowing secure payment etc.

If I do get the go ahead, I will also look to offer some lace tools and
possibly a tatting shuttle if I can source one suitable to be painted on -
currently we only paint on basic plastic shuttles.

Something for you all to think about!
