Hello

  Jan Gardiner from Lacewing gave a talk at Wymondham in Norfolk UK on
wether we could be called a skilled worker.

If I remember correctly, she said we do something very skillfull. Manovering
the bobbins, threads. Knowing how to read, design and maker from a card with
pinholes on it wether we photo copy a pattern or not]

Most people cannot sit for the hours it takes to make our lace, even if its a
bookmark.

At the end of her talk she said I have come to the conclusion that we are
skilled people. So don`t let others say you are not!!!
I think she is right.

from craftsmen, which means a skilled worker.

Hello everyone

  Further on from Viviennes suggestion of hookie bobbins.

I have used some plastic bobbins I had to hand and put a eye screw [ used for
hanging net curtains] into the top of the bobbins because its a closed hook
the thread go through but won`t come out when working.
To get the screw started I used a hot pin to make a tiny hole.

I`ve tried wooden ones but it split.

Hello everyone
 One of my ladies brought in a name of a lacemaker and asked if I knew
her. I don`t but I know a group who might know her.
Her name is Catrion Mason who was awarded an MBE in the New Years Honours List
in England, for services to lacemaking.
I enjoyed Larkrise to Candleford. A friend of mine who was a teacher in
Norfolk for 20 years has put a message on the BBC website for the wardrobe
lady about the Bucks point lace on the pillow.

Hello friendly spiders
  I have just spent a good hour bringing some bobbins back
to life. I had bought about 30 Springett bobbins second hand at a laceday a
few years ago.I tried to clean them up but it did`nt work. So they have been
thrown in a box since. I think there was a discussion on the list about
bringing bobbins back to life a while back, so I want to say about my bobbins.
I used Lord Sheraton Caretaker Wood Balsam which states it nourishes and
protect. The result is perfect. I now have these bobbins looking like new and
I will be proud to have them on my pillow in future.

Hello Everyone
 My husband has just found a very good pillow bag which will also keep
your pillow dry in the rain. He went to the local fishing tackle shop today
and came home with what is called a stink bag. Its a bag to put wet keepnets
into when packing up to go home. it has a zip all around the top and laid flat
on the floor and has about a 3 inch depth. It will take up to a 22 inch pillow
quite happily. They cost £25 from any fishing tackle shop. They are a nice
light green colour with Sensor and a picture of a fish on the front. Obviously
Sensor is the manufacturer. A short handle and a long handle is provided for
ease of carrying.
Who says we don`t train our husbands well because he had the same thought as
me when he saw it.LOL

 I think an e`book is a brilliant idea as you can send the book
anywhere in the world without extra cost.
There is also another good reason for having e`books, that is you don`t have

Hello Everyone
 I am writing this warning to stop other lacemakers who buy multiples
of bobbins etc. As some of you know I have my own group and for the last 10
years since the group started,I have always bought everyone`s bobbins and then
they pay me. This year I ordered 4 bone bobbins and 4 wooden bobbins, plus the
two new books The wedding one and the decorations one. It all came to £84 and
what I thought to be a bit extra for postage. When the package arrived it said
£ 1.59 on the envelope and when I checked how much I had been charged for
Postage. It came to £11.21. Which I think is outragous. So I contacted the
Lace Guild and asked if they had made a mistake. I was sent a list of postage
prices. I had been charge postage for each seperate item.Since then I have had
my e`mails ignored. So I wrote to the chairman who it looks as though is
ignoring that as well.
I won`t be a member next year and I think there may be others to follow suit.

   I`d just like to say about the new Lace magazines Vueltay Cruz
Twist and Cross.
I received my magazines today and I have to say I`m definately not
disappointed. There are three lovely glossy magazines with patterns and
instructions for beginners, plus lovely patterns for us more  mature
lacemakers as well.
A big thankyou goes to Antje for telling us about and making the magazines
available to us all.

Hello to all of you
On Saturday I took Antje and Pams new lace magazines to Norfolk
Lacemakers to a all day meeting.
They were very well received and looked through all day. Some of the
lacemakers took details about the books, so hopefully there may be some more
subscriptions.
The comment they most received was "What lovely magazines all beautifully done
on lovely glossy paper" " How lovely and colourfull " was another comment.

I totally agree with you Sue.
My husband and I were in Tesco`s one day and the staff tried to bully us into
using the machines. Even the woman on the checkout told us to go and use
them.
I wonder how she will feel when she is told she has no job due to the
machines.

Yes there is a lot of this sort of thing going on lately.
I had an e`mail from a lacemaking friends husband last night and straight away
I knew he had been hacked. So I`ve e`mailed him with the message.
Its awfull and these people need  to be stopped.

  Katelyn I use a stand when I`m sitting in an armchair. My
pillowstand stands at the side untill I use it. I can take my stand outside in
the summer and make lace.

Hello everyone
 In all my years of lacemaking, the best thing I have found to
fasten the bobbins while working on a different area is the good old
bootlace.
Trainers come with in all colours and patterns nowadays,so its easy to match
laces.

   Last week someone asked if Margaret Wall still does the Diamond
Jubilee bobbin.
Yes she does. There is a choice, a lovely deep red or a silver and blue. I

I have upgraded too. I also love the print preview and the fact you can put a
picture on the design page and of course the fact you can save as a JPG file.

Wasn't there an exhibition some years ago, of lace-covered CDs? People from
all over made the lace and sent it in, and there were some patterns
published.
Maybe those would work for your candleholders.

Hello
  I totally agree with Alex about the time it takes to design a 
pattern,then writing out the instructions so everyone who likes the pattern can 
make it. People just do not realise this.
I designed a tablecloth made in squares with an edging in 2001 for Children in 
Need. A program here to raise money for that cause. In fact the lot totted up 
to 3,330 hours work.
Then  a member of a group that worked with me and my daughter on this 
project,said about another project was,Sod the Copyright!! This lacemaker 
does'nt design. Maybe she should!!

I think if you need to use a helping hand to make lace i.e. Ghost pillow. Do so.
It's up to the lacemaker how he or she works the Lace. Speed has nothing to do 
with it.
Enjoying what you are doing does.
I taught  a group and some ladies used the polysteryne and some did'nt. it's 
personal choice.

Hello
I was taught and indeed taught Lacemakers myself to have 3 different coloured 
pens(fine felt tips) and draw the lines in the colours on the enlarged pattern, 
green for h/st,red for w/st and yellow for a gimp.
This is just another idea.

Thank you to all the people who gave advice on this project which is now
packaged ready to go into the post on Monday.  It took me a little time to
achieve the best way to present the two gifts and the borrowed garter when
the bride receives them and left my expert packer to work:-)   I am pleased
and relieved that it is done.

Hello fellow spiders,
I have been very busy recently reworking my lace garter for my future
daughter
in law to wear in 2 weeks time.  The lace is complete, the elastic and
ribbon
threaded through and I have her leg measurements and I have just cut the
elastic to get ready to sew together.  Happy so far.

Am now short of time to complete and get this handed over.

It is with a very sad heart,I am having to tell you,my husband passed away a 
few days before Christmas. It’s the only way I can think of doing this to get 
to people who know us.
Graeme was a big influence on my lacemaking life. It was he that got me a kit 
to keep my Shiralee company when she was learning. He supported the City and 
Guilds too. Why don’t you do it?? Etc etc.
The the Jubilee Lace Group which Shiralee and I ran for 10 years.
My apologies to any who think I am wrong to put this on here. I could’nt find 
Lace Chat.

Thank-you everyone that has written about me losing my husband. It's really 
appreciated .
He was always in support of everything I have done.
He will be a huge loss to me and the family. My daughter has been very 
supporting over the situation. My granddaughter has now been made my carer ,so

If you use her images to create your own pricking I think you would be in
danger of breaking copyright - she holds it for the lace and design (as she
