[lace] thread question

2007-05-20 Thread Judith Bongiovanni
In the book Modern Lace, the author calls for "Translucent Lurex thread". Can
anyone tell me where in the US this can be obtained or what the equivalent
would be? Thanks.

[lace] News article

2006-02-15 Thread Judith Bongiovanni
Just a heads up about an article in the Wall Street Journal regarding
lace-making in India. They got the technique all wrong but it is still
interesting to read.

Hello gentle lacemakers,
I know some of you out there can help me. What thread is comprable
toCopley Marshall No. 80? Is it cotton or linen? Also Retors d"Alsace No. 30
and No. 60? Are there any domestic suppliers of these threads? Thanks in
advance for your wisdom and help.

[lace] Re: Bit of lace knitting

2003-12-12 Thread Judith Bongiovanni
Wow! More than just a bit. That is quite a project. When did you start it
and did you work on it exclusively or do other things for a break? Very
nice indeed.

[lace] tating cotton

2003-08-02 Thread Judith Bongiovanni
I am a relative newbie and I made a collar of two colors of tatting cotton.
It was very nice to work and the results were very nice, at least as far as
the thread was concerned.

[lace] Curved needles

2003-07-07 Thread Judith Bongiovanni
Hello gentle lacemakers,
To hold onto a curved needle for mounting lace, I cut a wide rubber band
such as is around broccoli stems in the US. I then use this folded around
the needle which prevents slipping. I hope this helps.

[lace] starch querry

2003-06-18 Thread Judith Bongiovanni
Hello thread weavers,
I am a confirmed lurker who very much appreciates all the information
and enthusiasm I read on this list. I am delurking (is that a real word?) to
ask if anyone can tell me where I can order Moravia Starch? It is on my
needs list for an IOLI class and I cannot find a source. Thanks for your
help. Judy in Niagara Falls.
