[lace] Edinburgh Lace Club Friendship Day
I do not know whether this has been posted on Arachne as I been off piste as they say for a while. Saturday 17th October 2009 is Edinburgh's Lace Club's Friendship Day at St Anne's Parish Church Hall, Kaimes Road, Corstorphine 10am - 4pm. Tickets are only £3.00 and as the name suggests it is a friendly opportunity to go and share your love of lace making with a great bunch of people. The best thing is that you have an excuse to sit down all day on Saturday and make lace - legitimately!!! I am sorry that I cannot make it to Edinburgh but I wish them all the best. Re: [lace] My Toender Lace
And if by magic here are the pictures of his exquisite Tønder Lace edging for you to admire: http://www.margorsson.com/David_Collyer_Tønder_Gallery.html Thanks Julian Julian Jefferson ja.jeffer...@virgin.net On 12 Feb 2009, at 12:01, David in Ballarat wrote: Dear Friends, Today as I watched the latest on our dreadful Victorian bush fires, I was able to finally complete my piece of Toender lace which I had commenced on 14 Jan 2007!! I have sent the final photos to Julian who will no doubt have them up on the website in a day or two. I do hope you get as much pleasure from them as I did in working this beautiful piece. Now if anyone has any ideas on how I could successfully get it to Princes Mary of Denmark Tasmania, I'd be most grateful to hear them. This evening I have wound a hundred or so pairs of bobbins in the finest black silk from Eva in Spain and at last have commenced the legendary Miss Channer's Mat. This silk came on a large spool and seems to me to be about equal to Pipers 2/20. I have reduced the pricking to about 2/3 the original size and as far as possible am converting the mat from Floral Bucks Point to Chantilly. Re: [lace] Replica Christening gown
Apparently there is a Honiton Christening Gown made for the Millennium. I am assuming that this is not that gown. Perhaps the new gown was made of antique pieces of honiton in the Royal Collection? Julian Julian Jefferson [EMAIL PROTECTED] On 24 Apr 2008, at 02:21, P A Lally wrote: Hi Helen As there is no longer a Honiton lace industry these days - only Hobby lacemakers, I suspect that it would be extremely difficult for even the Queen to commission lace to be made. It would certainly have be extremely expensive in order to entice lacemakers to part with their lace and as most people only do a few hours lace at one time, an overshirt with as much lace on it as the original had would probably take years to produce. Pieces that have been made for royalty in recent times have mostly been by way of a gift from the lacemakers of Honiton. Annette in Trentham Vic. [lace] Contemporary Lace/ Men n' Lace
Further to my posting I have updated www.margorsson.com to include a page on Contemporary Lace Makers. If you are a contemporary lace maker and would like to link to this page please contact me. I have added some more links to male lacemakers in Men n' Lace, including Achim from Germany. I have also expanded the Men n' lace pages to create pages for male lace makers who do not have their own web sites, these include Pablo Gustavo Coccini from Argentina and Sam Jakobsson from Sweden. Could I thank the arachne list members who forwarded their contact details. The spiders web of male lacemakers is expanding! If you know of anyone else please send me their contact details. I have just come back from the Lace Guild's Annual Convention at Sheffield. I had a great time meeting up and sharing the art and craft of lace with a wonderfully diverse group of fellow enthusiasts. [lace] Male Lacemakers/ Contemporary Lace
You may recall that last year I put out a request for male lacemakers to contact me as I was developing a website. Many thanks to everyone who contacted me/ forwarded on my details. I have just relaunched the website which you can see at: www.margorsson.com. I have included pictures from Pablo Coccini a lacemaker from Argentina. It is fascinating to discover how the art and craft of lace is worldwide! I received a number of emails asking if I was going to be inclusive and include lacemakers other than men. The answer is yes!. I am wanting to promote contemporary lace on the website. If anyone would like to be included as a link to the website please contact me.
