[lace] Finca 60 thread equivalents
Help, I am going on a workshop at the weekend and just discovered the pattern I want to do recommends using Finca 60. Can anyone tell me an equivalent thread for Finca 60 please? Brenda is Finca in your book? I only have version 1. Failing that where can I get a reel of Finca 60 by Friday? [lace] Fine Buckinghamshire Point (was Miss Channer's Mat)
Jean said: If you're looking for a real challenge rather than this particular mat there's a Bucks Point pricking of a cope in Fine Buckinghamshire Point Lace Patterns Belonging to the Misses Sivewright and Pope from the Springetts. I've got a copy of this book just to look at and dream. I agree with Jean if you like floral Bucks try this book. I love it. I have made the fan on the front cover- it was a challenge but worked quite well once I got going. Still dreaming over some of the other patterns in it and of finding some time to try them. RE: [lace] time vs pieces
And I can add the perfect excuse for buying new bobbins for years - announce to the DH who has just told you that you *must* have enough bobbins by now, that you're going to make Miss Channer's mat one day. Of course, the innocent DH asks how many do you need for that? Well, the pattern says at least 250 pairs...so go to every lace fair you can find, and enjoy yourself!! Ruth Budge (Sydney, Australia) But I have already made Miss Channers mat and DH realises that even if I was going to make another I must already have the bobbins, there are so many around the house. On the other hand if I sneak in the extra one or two He will never be able to tell! But to me the bobbins are like looking at a diary of my life My first lace day... A birthday present from my aunt... A lace course... A holiday in Devon... The first bobbin my husband brought for me... A Wedding present... A gift from a secret pal in Aus... They all give me such pleasure and so many wonderful memories Of course you can never have enough. Thank you everyone for all the ideas for the 50th anniversary. I will do something in lace but what ... Today I will just think about it. It is too hot to do any thing else. RE: [lace] summer/winter projects
Thanks Clay that sounds a lovely idea. I have seen one of Tamara's designs in the Lace magazine - it is already on my TO DO list. I hope someone is taking pictures of the IOLI competition and will post them. Diana Berkshire, UK -Original Message- From: Clay Blackwell [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: 06 August 2003 16:35 To: Pickford Diana; 'arachne' Subject: Re: [lace] summer/winter projects Hi Diana - Tamara is off at IOLI and can't defend herself here (vbg) so I'm going to take advantage of the opportunity to say that you might really want to have a look at her beautiful new design, the Lovebirds. T's designs are primarily Milanese and she works very hard to develop diagrams and written instructions to help complete the project. And best yet, she is very generous in making her designs available via internet. This new design is her entry in the IOLI competition this year, and I suppose we will learn (Friday?) who the winners are. You may want to contact her next week when she has gotten home. I expect that this will become her most popular design to date! It is great to work on, hard enough to keep you thinking but not too testing that you can't be bothered in this heat. I am half way round so starting to think about the next project. It is my parents 50th Wedding anniversary next year so would like to make something special for them. Any suggestions? I love making Beds, Bucks and Torchen but have also done a little Milanese. I have untill July so should have enough time. [lace] RE: What is the Lace Embroidery Resource Center?
Jeri I have only been on the list for about 18 months. I mostly lurk due to the fact that I am normally behind on the list and assume that if I know the answer someone else will already have replied. I keep quite a lot of the most interesting and informative postings that I think I will refer to again - so I have lots of yours. Thank you for everything I have learnt. But I haven't seen your posting on the Lace and Embroidery Resource Center before now. There are 3,000+ books on my library shelves devoted to the subjects of lace, embroidery, costumes, textiles, quilting that includes lace and/or embroidery, history of women connected to textile arts, how to teach, conservation and restoration, sewing, color theory, interior decorating that uses lace and embroidery, antiques. There are also books referred to in the bibliographies of these books -- making it easier to find original sources. WOW - it sounds fantastic My habits are to think big, and think ahead! I have made lists of ideas At least the size and scope of the American Textile History Museum in Lowell, Massachusetts. That certainly sounds ambitious! I have always thought it should be located within 25 miles of Interstate 95 With todays technology the location should be less important, but there is something different about being able to touch, feel and browse through a real book rather than via web pages etc. millions of dollars are needed to fund such a facility. It sounds quite a daunting prospect to raise that sort of money I wonder if that is why you had so few replies before. We all feel too inadequate to be able to help. If you were in the UK I would approach the Lace Guild, the VA and the English Heritage or National Trust for help with the funding. The Lottery also give out grants (they sometimes match what you raise on projects like this). Unfortunately I don't have the knowledge in this area in the US. It would be dreadful to see a collection of this size being disbanded so I hope that the links from within arachne will connect you with the right people to realise your plans. Keep us all upto date - perhaps we can break this down into smaller steps to achieve it.
