Re: [lace] Loopy scarf - was My lace
Maybe a variation of hairpin lace? It looks somewhat like a basic strip of this, just with fancier thread than I have seen before. There are a couple of websites with fairly good pictures - e.g. http://www.crochetcabana.com/specialty/hairpin_lace.htm All of these that I've seen secure the middle with the same thread as the loops, but perhaps there is a variation that would allow different yarns to be used? [lace] Re: state fair exhibit
Hi! Although I am mostly a lurker on Arachne, I feel compelled to put in a plug for our state fair! The Rocky Mountain Lace Guild many years ago became frustrated with the lack of knowledgeable judges for the lace competition at the Colorado State Fair, and since then has been providing the judges for this event. Only the winning entries are displayed for the public, and they are in locked cases. To further decrease the risk of loss, a guild member (other than the judges) hand delivers and picks up entries each year. There is also a special ribbon with a handmade lace center awarded to one lucky (or rather, skilled) entrant each year. Oh, and I should also mention that the Colorado State Fair is one of the few in the country that allow entries from anywhere! We encourage everyone to consider entering - entry fees are low, and this helps us to convince the fair organizers that we really do need at least 10 categories of lace! There is more information about the lace competition on the guild website at www.rockymountainlaceguild.org The premium book with information about entering will be online after May 30 at www.coloradostatefair.com happy lacemaking! [lace] Needlelace workshop in Denver
Hi all, I just wanted to let you know that if any of you are going to be in the Denver area this July, there are still a few spaces left in a needlelace workshop hosted by Rocky Mountain Lace Guild and taught by Arachne's own Liz Ligeti. Please contact me if you are interested! Trudy - To unsubscribe send email to majord...@arachne.com containing the line: unsubscribe lace y...@address.here. Re: [lace] Cluny de Brioude (dentelle polychrome)
I don't think it is ever specifically mentioned, but, I think the Soie d'Alger is made by Au Ver a Soie (you can see this on the labels pictured on pg 11) The 150 denier silk I believe is the cones pictured on the same page, by Bart & Francis in Belgium. Hope that helps some! Re: [lace] Honiton Motifs
I don't know how many pieces you have, or how large they are, but how about making a clock? You could use a motif at 12, 3, 6, and 9, or more if they are small enough. Clock workings are generally available at craft stores, and the lace could be mounted on fabric that is in turn mounted to acid-free fiberboard before being framed. I have a clock that has Brazilian embroidery at each hour that was done something like this. Some of them are in paperweights but there is a limit to how many of those I want to have to dust. A couple of very tiny ones I have placed inside lockets but most of them are put away in a drawer which seems a pity after all the work that has gone into them. Has anyone got any different ideas for displaying these small pieces? Ann Yorkshire UK -- I am using the free version of SPAMfighter. We are a community of 7 million users fighting spam.
