Re: [lace] Nancy's graph
You can found some different results if you match bobbin lace and Needlepoint lace, in many books needlelace is called needlepoint lace Silvia, from Italy 2010/12/18, Lorelei Halley lhal...@bytemeusa.com: Nancy What is really interesting about the word frequency graph is that the needle lace spikes match the bobbin lace ones, but at a lower level. I suppose that is an illustration of the relative interest in the two forms of lace. The spikes at 1900 and 1960 are odd. The one just be fore 1980 may be Doris Southard's book. Tebbs was 1907 and 1911. Brooke was 1923. Another surprising thing is that the post 1960 revival does not exceed the 1900-1925 revival. I would have expected it to greatly exceed the earlier one. Re: [lace] Snow Queen Panel
2010/11/9, catherine catherinebar...@btinternet.com: Catherine, your Snow Queen Panel was the piece that got me hooked on needlelace when I saw it in Sansepolcro! Could you tell me what kind of thread you used to do it? Many thanks Silvia, from Italy Yes it is hand worked but I did find it difficult as the length of thread required to work from one side to other is so long, and tends to twist back on itself into infuriating tight little knots. I originally began working the net horizontally, starting from the top but after only 2 or 3 rows I was ready to give up (it is A4 size)! I then thought perhaps I could work it diagonally and started from the top left hand corner, which was much easier and the longest stretch of net ground without any anchorage point, is from the left-hand side running between the castle and up to the belly of the reindeer, which was a far shorter stretch than horizontally. Don't give up with the net stitch, just keep going - it will improve with practice! Happy stitching Catherine - To unsubscribe send email to majord...@arachne.com containing the line: unsubscribe lace y...@address.here. Re: [lace] trip to Italy
Here you can find lots of information about italian embroidery and lace: http://italian-needlework.blogspot.com/ Silvia 2010/4/24, Jay Ekers jek...@bigpond.net.au: In January this year the banner on the Museo Del Merletto in Burano gave opening times: - from first November to 31 March 10am/4pm, 1 April to 31 October 10am/5pm; closed Tuesday, 25 December, 1st January and 1st May. However, when we got close it was obvious they had omitted to say which year! Peering through the windows we could only see a vast empty space. The building looked all spruced up so perhaps they were just a bit behind in replacing the lace. There were several shops selling lace and in one there was a woman making needlelace. The many coloured houses shone in the bright sunshine, the canals a kaleidoscope of reflections, and there were very few tourists so the island itself was a delight for first time visitors but you should check with the museum if that is your main reason for the trip. Re: [lace] Lace videos
2009/10/29, Karen Zammit Manduca kaza...@melita.com: You can find some tombolo's DVD (very good, in my opinion) at http://www.laceproject.it/videocorsi.htm Silvia from Italy I wonder if anyone can help me out with a query - perhaps an Italian member. In a March 2006 issue of Rakam magazine, I came across an advertisement for a series of videos - Corso di Tombolo in a series called Il Giardino dei Punti. Is there anyone who has heard of them or perhaps owns them and can tell me whether they are worth trying to purchase or not. Perhaps if I track them down (there is no web address - just an Italy telephone number) they may even be available on DVD by now. Re: [lace] Re: Early laces
Do you know where I can purchase The Early Lace Workbook? I can't find it on Amazon, Lacis and Bookdepository. Many thanks Silvia (from Italy) 2009/8/13, bev walker walker.b...@gmail.com: I noticed in The Early Lace Workbook she offers as many questions as answers ;) An impressive publication. The Levey/Payne was a pioneering work, but the reproductions didn't look anything like the extant laces; some of Shepherd's could fool a museum curator... Re: [lace] Macrame book
I think you can find it at: http://www.tuttoricamo.com/trServizi/Libri/DMCBiblioteca.asp Please, scroll down the list till the end. Best Silvia (from Italy) 2008/11/16, tess parrish [EMAIL PROTECTED]: I am trying to find a DMC book called Le Macrame. It is not the encyclopedia that often pops up when one is looking for something DMC, but comes in two forms: a green cover which I think might be the original, or a whiteish cover with macrame on it which I think is a reprint. If anyone has this book and would be willing to lend it to me to scan, I would very much appreciate it. Or perhaps someone has already scanned it? I think I have found it for sale on line, but as you know I try to borrow it first if possible. I am also trying interlibrary loan, but that takes a while and I'm not sure I'll be lucky. This caught my eye: Does anyone on our international list know about Sea Silk? ...because I have just purchased some lovely dyed knitting yarn called 'Sea Silk' - 70% silk, and 30% 'sea cell' - a kelp-based fibre. It has potential for a bobbin lace scarf :) However, this is not the sea silk of the bivalve source. On the latter there is an excellent entry at Wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sea_silk with references, and external links which would be worth following - one in particular is the website of a handspinner in Sardinia who utilizes byssus. -- Bev in Sooke BC (on beautiful Vancouver Island, west coast of Canada) - To unsubscribe send email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] containing the line: unsubscribe lace [EMAIL PROTECTED] For help, write to [EMAIL PROTECTED] - To unsubscribe send email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] containing the line: unsubscribe lace [EMAIL PROTECTED] For help, write to [EMAIL PROTECTED]
