[lace] Arachne lunch at IOLI
Thank you Janice. You can put me on a list (if you are making one) for the lunch (or whenever) meeting of Arachnids. I always so enjoy meeting up with everyone. I have already been looking at a gift to bring if there was a meeting!! Regards from Liz. L. [lace] Arachne lunch
So sorry I just about missed the Arachne lunch - but we had to go shopping, and it was the one grumpy shuttle driver, who was on a "Work to Rule" session, I think, and would not come to pick us up from the store earlier than his 'set' time. Grrr!! Anyway, Devon came and sat with me while I ate my lunch, and showed me what she was talking about a week or so ago, about an exhibition of lace. Wow! She has the most marvelous Presentation, and it looks like an exciting project. Perhaps she will explain more, now, to us all so we can answer her original questions!! I am having a great time at IOLI, enjoying every moment, though the Tatting class - doing it the Old Fashioned way, is stretching the brain a bit. I am glad we do tattin "our" more modern way, though learning the historical way is Very interesting! I love the History of Lace, and this is just another gem to add to my knowledge. Regards, Liz in Philadelphia, USA - normally in Melbourne, Oz.!! - To unsubscribe send email to majord...@arachne.com containing the line: unsubscribe lace y...@address.here. Dear Janice and others I enjoyed meeting other Arachne members very much! The lunch was just lunch and overpriced! I think we will see more participants if the cost was lower and that's what this is about! Robin, - Yes -- Definitely go to the Arachne lunch! I have been to a couple of them - and would not miss it for quids!! You will enjoy putting faces to names - and finding they are Real people, not just a typed word on your monitor!! Everyone is so please to meet everyone else - you will have a ball!!! Enjoy convention. I have been to 3 and loved every minute of them. The vendor's room is awesome (take lots of money!!), and teachers showcase, and the banquet, - and anything else you can find time to join in!! Go to Everything Chose one of the bus tours on the Wednesday, and enjoy seeing something of the area - not just the hotel!, and you will also get to know your fellow travellers a bit better, too, as well as your classmates in whatever class you go to. I was hoping to get to Salt Lake City this year, but it is now very doubtful. - Unfortunately. Re: [lace] Arachne Lunch
Hi All I colour my hair, well the hairdresser does, but I use the time that I am sitting about to read books, check the next pattern I am -panning to do. I use this time as planning/thinking time. I always take some lace oriented thing with me. I have even been known to sit and tat!!! And that doesn't happen very often. Apologies to Anita for getting her last name wrong. I did know it was Hansen but my fingers work quicker than my brain. Regards hair, I am the one front left next to Jeri and the spider in the 2003 photo, with bright red hair. I let it grow out in 2008 to see what it looked like, not enough grey yet for my liking. BTW, it may have seemed like I was in charge at the lunch, but I was the one appointed by the convention hosts as they knew my name after I queried whether they had someone local who could be in charge. I was handed the attendance list, but I was not involved with the choice of food. The hosts told me they made no profit from the luncheon so I guess the hotel made out on the deal. I think there was enough food this time but I would have preferred a coffee or tea with my meal. If anyone on the list is involved in 2012 convention, please keep the costs down or give us a meal that equals the cost of the food and room. The staircase worked out well this year for the photo. If anyone has pictures of past luncheons maybe they can post them on the same Arachne Personal page. Yeah, Clay! grin Actually it also depends on what industry a person works in. Lacemakers and many others look experienced and wise with grey hair, whereas software engineers are often assumed to be out-of-date and with not long to last in the industry. Hi Devon and other Arachnids, Don't dye your hair; GROW OLD DISGRACEFULLY! Enjoy it! Have fun! Enjoy the fact that there -probably- is more time for lace making. Re: [lace] Arachne Lunch
I agree! And then I have to confess... I began coloring my hair in my late 20's because I started greying prematurely!! (Honest!) So, by the time I was 50, I had no idea what color my natural hair was. Finally, my hairdresser said that I had more grey hair than auburn, so I finally let it grow out. I looked like Ronald McDonald (the McDonald's clown) for a very long time... it was awful! Turns out, I had a nice mix of dark and white, (salt and pepper) and once the dye had all grown out, I got loads of compliments about my hair. Now, the dark has mostly gone, I'm mostly white/grey, and it's not drawing the compliments any more, but at least I don't have to spend an hour a month getting it colored, and the money I save is definitely better spent on lace books!!! I thought posting the group photo on that page was the best place for it. I was surprised how easy it was to post photos as it is a long time since I had done it before. I wonder how many are in the 2003 photo and in the 2011 photo. It is always nice to put a face to a name. The photo was taken by Bob who is the official photographer for the IOLI conventions, but he used my camera. He caused much amusement when he held the camera backwards and we could all see his smiling face on the screen. Nahhh. hair dye is for people who have no self-confidence at all. Your hair looks really good! (And I've seen it in person recently!). So unless you're trying to fake out a 30-something stud-muffin, I suggest you accept yourself the way you are and be glad you have a beautiful healthy head full of hair! (Dye could change that 'healthy' part...).I'm guessing your DH hasn't complained... I have uploaded a photo of the attendees at the Arachne lunch last Tuesday in Bethesda. There were 32 present but I think someone's DH got in the photo at the top. I can't remember all the names but Jean Leader is on the first row at left, Anita Harris is front right and I am next to Anita. Jeri Ames is center front in her red spider hat. http://community.webshots.com/album/85972876GuqKKW Hope this link is correct. It should go to the Arachne Personal page. Please keep me informed of Arachne lunch plans. I suppose one way of handling this would be for Janice to post something on the Bulletin Board if there is one, or near the registration, mentioning the time and place and for the rest of us to try to remember to look for the announcement. Then we can all try to remind each other too, when we pass in the hallways. (If it sounds as though I require a lot of reminding these days, that would be the truth.)
