[lace] Canadian Lacemaker Gazette

2005-06-29 Thread Malvary J Cole
My Canadian Lacemaker Gazette arrived today and I have had a quick look. I'm
saving it to have a longer read over the weekend.

Hope everyone else's copy arrives soon.

[lace] Canadian Lacemaker Gazette

2019-12-30 Thread Malvary
On a really lousy day while it is still freezing rain outside, the postman
managed to make it to my door and brought the latest edition of the magazine.

As I wasn’t even thinking about going out today and probably not tomorrow
either, I’ll have plenty to browse and maybe even a pattern to start when I’ve
finished the angel I’m working on.

Malvary in a very miserable freezing rainy and snowy day in Ottawa

[lace] Canadian Lacemaker Gazette - Bev Walker

2013-07-13 Thread Jeriames
Years ago, Tess told me about the quarterly Canadian Lacemaker Gazette,
and I subscribed immediately.

Living in a state bordering Quebec and New Brunswick, and with a direct
ferry trip from Maine to Nova Scotia possible, we sometimes have lace guests
from Canada, or visit them. We have a easy relationship with lacemakers
across our northern border.

You often read postings on Arachne from Bev Walker. Bev has been the
Volunteer Editor, for the last 13 years of the Gazette's nearly 30-year
history! That is a long time to keep up momentum. In this period, the
Gazette
has added more and more color. Counting the covers, it has 24 pages of
content.

This is a newsy publication, with photos of lacemakers joining the 5 Metre
Club, reports of various lace getaways (including *Lace Camp*), patterns,
antique lace sharing, lace exhibits, ethnic lace articles, lace day
reports, lace travels, book reviews. Always, a lot of photos and touches of
local
enthusiasm. Articles submitted in French are published in French (not
many of those, but a nice touch).

The Gazette brings lace news down to a very personal level of enjoyment,
and is always a pleasure to read cover-to-cover (and save for my lace
library).

Publishing is moving from British Columbia to Manitoba. Now is a good
time to shout a big "Thank You and Well Done" to Bev Walker and her friends,
and "Greetings" to the new volunteers in Manitoba..

Hello Jeri and everyone

Thank you for your thoughtful tribute Jeri, and excellent review of the
Canadian Lacemaker Gazette!

For my part it was the best publishing experience ever, guiding a national
lace magazine. There was indeed the priceless support of lace friends:
subscribers, those who send articles and patterns, and the production team.

One of my first tasks as the editor in 2000 was to construct a basic
website. Web design is not my forté and I figured if anyone wanted to do
better, they would offer to do so. They haven't, no doubt preferring to
make lace :)
The new editor has some good ideas. For now the web decor remains basic,
information is up-to-date.

ps - a project dear to our hearts since the release of the first CD, which
was our first ever digital media review, is the one Tess is involved with,
the digital archive of lace documents:

Re: [lace] Canadian Lacemaker Gazette - Bev Walker

2013-07-14 Thread Clay Blackwell
It seems to me that this contribution to Arachne has just opened up a "Who's
Who" in the modern lace world! Clearly, Bev Walker and her leadership of the
Canadian Lacemaker Gazette stands out as a major contributor!! In addition to
that, Bev has routinely shared her expertise with this list, and with
individuals who have posted questions to the list! So, I extend my profound
thanks and respect to Bev!

And Jeri is another person who deserves our undying appreciation! She keeps
our collections in safe storage and she is quick to shout the alarm when
someone is treating lace in a way that will make the work disappear due to bad
conservation.

I think this "Who's Who" would not be complete without including Tess Parrish,
whose work with "the Professor" and the digital archives in Arizona has saved
hundreds, if not thousands of books, articles, pictures, and other
lace-related documents in a searchable archive!

It should be noted that each of the people I have acknowledged have served the
cause of Lace without renumeration. I invite you to share your "Who's Who in
Lace" and look forward to hearing of many more who have served the cause of
Lace in the same capacity!

Clay
