Re: [lace] Silver Wire Lace/clay cord

2008-05-23 Thread bevw
Hello Cherry and everyone

I have done a bit of work with 'silver clay' - you can buy prepared cord,
too, (or is that what you already have?). I think it must be made by
extrusion. When I had the small packet to play with, I made some tiny rolls
to make a short BL plait. The trick is to keep it moist without it melting;
management technique is important if doing an ambitious woven piece using
the cord. My clay management doesn't extend to bobbin lace though - I ended
up making a broad silver-clay fitting to which a textile lace could be
attached.

Yes silver clay requires specific tools, especially the kiln. A blow-torch
can be used on small projects (with a fireproof surface).

I'd like to know more about how precious metal clay is turned into a cord.
I know that the 'clay' itself is actually an organic binder. It's been
around for about 15 years and was developed in Japan. It's come a long way
since then. A few ceramic artists have tried incorporating it into pottery
but the firing temperatures are too different and the silver often ends up
 burning away.

[lace] Clay Lace Buddy map

2007-09-13 Thread sue

Clay the email wont go to your own address.
Thank you for trying to help. I did type in Dorset UK, but it kept saying
address not found. In the end I went for the name closest to it, which is
30 miles away. Not bad in the scheme of things. At least I am now a dot on
the map, g

I don't think you need to put a street address, just Dorset, UK.

[lace] Clay Cross, Derbyshire, Lace Day

2005-03-01 Thread Stitchnowl
Hello all,

Just to let you know that the Lace and Textile Day is this Saturday at Clay
Cross Adult Education Centre, Derbyshire. It opens at 10.00 am and has a talk
during the morning, loads of suppliers of threads, patterns, books, bobbins,
etc etc. There are two taster sessins in the afternoon but I believe that
these are really full so if you are interested then it would be best to
telephone
the Centre to book a place.

For those who haven't been before, there is a lovely coffee lounge and there
are also demonstrations, raffle and a chance to meet up with old friends from
various classes around the country - lots of folks do travel about I know.

Well, I'll be there as I've a few projects to purchase the threads and I'm
always on the lookout for something new in the patterns on offer.

Hope some might be able to visit and if you do please come and say Hi as I
shall be in the top hall in the afternoon with some of the lace which has been
made by folks from our lace making classes.

Regards to all,

Babs (Chesterfield)
