of the Needle and Bobbin Club vol 59 nos 12 1976:

Her appendices 1 and 2 list the chapters in the 1886 and 1913 French
editions respectively.

2009-10-19 Thread Julie Ourom
Thanks to Liz for this information which gives more clues. I have what I
suspect could be the English equivalent of the edition that Lucie has access
to.

For those trying to date the pocket versions, they just do not appear to
have the same identifying marks as the larger sized editions so the dating
information provided on the list doesn't help. Narrowing it down by # of
copies seems to be as much as anyone has been able to do.

RE: [lace] Dillmont again - to Liz Pass in Poole, Dorset

2009-10-18 Thread Elizabeth Pass
Hello Lucie ( and Lynn)

From your description, it appears that you have a French edition. The
earliest French edition that I have details for was dated Oct 1909, when
630,000 copies had been printed. I don't have the number of pages for this
one, which is the larger size, but the 1924 pocket size contained 828. So
it appears that your book predates 1909.

I keep looking for more clues to dates - the best so far was a English
version which had a handwritten inscription - Holmes, Windermere, 1895. I
believe the first book was published in 1886.

Hope this helps a bit,

Liz

Hi Liz,

As I see that you are gathering info from other countries too... here is
mine from a Spanish version of the book:

It has the number 631, and the copyright for this Spanish edition is from
1975. It also says 1,335,000 copies published, and has 832 pages plus index
and coloured pictures of laces, and some history of DMC. I have bought it a
few years ago. It measures 23,5 x 15,5 cm.

I like this thread. Really interesting. And the book is beautiful. But...
has anyone tried to learn how to make bobbin lace following the instructions
of this book? Well, I haven't. But it seems quite difficult to me. Diagrams
are a great help nowadays!

Antje, from Gualdalajara, Spain

Hi Everyone,

My copy is an English pocket edition, 33/4 by 55/8inches (9.5cm

1,120,00 copies issued, 811 pages before all the ads and the contents.

English Edition . . . Sh 3-
French Edition . . . Fr 3.75

There is no number at the bottom of that page

I made a note, from a previous Arachne discussion that it was printed
in Dornash until 1923 and after that in Mulhouse.

I paid 13.00 GBP for it, probably about 25 years ago.
