Subject: [lace] Esther Chacon Exhibition

Hello all,

Some days ago, I had the opportunity to visit an Exhibition here in
Barcelona, where Esther Chacón, from Chile, has been displaying her works.
In effect, some of her framed pieces, reemembered me contemporary lace,
today made by many lacemakers.
It came to my mind the discussion recently hold on this list, about
origin of laces
I thought that it could be of interest of those people on Arachne
interested in textil art, to see Esther Chacon's works, so I have
uploaded a resume of the Exhibition. Those works that can be the most
representatives related with lace.
I shall remove the pictures in some days.
Here it is the link:

Kind regards.

Carolina. Barcelona. Spain.

Thanks a lot Carolina for this information and these beautiful images. Is
this finger lace? And is finger lace the same thing as macrame?

Yes, she explains that she bases her works on ancient native South
American knotting art. She is originary of Xile.

I would guess that she was inspired by pre-Colombian quipu.

The Museo Chileno de Arte Precolombino in Santiago has some
magnificent quipus in their collection.

On the last website above, you'll see a ghostly I-don't-know-what
on the bottom left hand corner of the picture. Run your cursor over
that and a menu will appear. Click on fotos.

There are other links within the main 'exhibit' illustration, click on any
of the highlighted squares. Awesome website, thank you for mentioning it.
