[lace] Japanese Tatting book

2005-02-03 Thread debbie
The Japanese Tatting book that I won in Steph's drawing has arrived. It
sure is a beautiful book. The photography is great!

I'd love to be able to read the captions and descriptions,
though. Japanese can be translated in Google, but that doesn't help
me. How am I supposed to get those weird characters into google,
LOL! Gotta find someone here in Jerusalem who can read Japanese. Avital??

Thanks very much, Steph!!
Have a great weekend,
Debbie

Woo Hoo! Thanks! I love books and this will be my second book on
tatting. I've done very little tatting, but maybe this will encourage
me. It happens that my first book has been lent out, to Avital, so we know
it's in good hands. Now that I will have another book to lend her, it'll
be a good excuse to see each other, LOL!

Some time ago I bought all the supplies needed to make bobbin lace,
including videos to teach me how. I've only gotten as far as spangling
some bobbins. I WILL get to it one of these days. In the meantime, I am
crocheting some lace fans and edgings. Also, some leaves and flowers in
the Irish Crochet style. I will be using all those pieces in a large, long
term project that I'm working on, mounting them and combining them with
embroidery.

Thanks, Steph. I look forward to receiving the book. I've sent you my
address separately.

[lace] Japanese tatting book draw

2005-01-05 Thread Steph Peters
I have a Japanese friend, Keiko, who is a tatter. She has taken me to see
lace in Japan, and I have taken her to see lace in Britain. Keiko very
kindly sends me a Japanese craft book every year, often a tatting book.
This year she has sent me a book that I bought when I was in Japan. I know
that Keiko would want a tatter to have this book so it's time for another
arachne draw.

The book is Tatting Lace, published by Ondori. There's a little bit about
it in English here:
http://www.georgiaseitz.com/reviews/ondori.html
Click on the link to 'sample pattern style' to see an example of the
excellent clear diagrams. No need to be able to read Japanese to use this
book.

If you would like to enter the draw please send me an email by midnight GMT
on Saturday 15 January. I will pick a winner at random from the emails I
receive. If you receive individual arachne mails just reply to this
message. If you are on lace-digest please put Japanese book in the subject
of your email. I will send the book anywhere in the world.
