(I changed the Subject, so this will be archived under artist's name.)
Manca is an Architect, whose early lacemaking, is sometimes influential in
her chosen career.
Wow! Thank you Jeanette in South Africa and Malvary in Canada.
I hope those trying to inspire the younger generations to make lace will
share this and other pages offered by Mantzalin. For 2 hours, I've been
happily looking at these sites and writing for you.
Will our Arachne critter experts share whether a firefly is the same as a
lightening bug (which flies)? I have annual guests who visit my rural
Maine home and we pray for a clear dark night (not too much moonlight) so
they
can photograph the Heavens. When we go out to capture these images,
lightening bugs (that is what I was taught they were) flutter around us like
tiny
blinking stars. It is quite special. So is seeing a lace firefly at:

This address offers 3 pages of design inspiration. Click on any photo to
learn more. On page 2 (choice of page offered at bottom of each page) be
sure to look at the Lost Tower of Antwerp Cathedral. That spiral of lace
continues upward to infinity. This contemporary image of this cathedral
reminds me of the incredibly detailed version by lace maker Frie Wuytack of
Belgium. It is shown in her 2nd and 3rd books, Lace with a Touch of Humor
and From Image to Imagination. Her traditional detailed lace cathedral
with surrounding neighborhood is at least 4 feet tall. (I am still looking
for Frie's book #1 in paper format, if anyone would like to part with it.)
Back to Mantzalin, on page 3, I clicked on the magenta-colored lace and
learned Slovenia claims to have the largest shopping complex in the EU! Nice
for OIDFA members to know.
Also, on page 3 at bottom left, is an image for the Three Art Academies in
Ljubljana, Slovenia. Looking at the details, and the layers of
architectural drawings reminded that lace can be made in layers. Why not
try it?
Perhaps an ornament in Christmas colors? Jane Atkinson, one of our members,
offers layered bobbin lace instructions, starting on page 8 of her
Contemporary Lace for You book.
Follow the links at top of Page 1 for more contemporary lace inspiration.
Be sure to look at the Blog, to see:
1. A bobbin lace lamp made of optical fiber.
2. Crochet covers for headphones to cover damaged original spongy covers.
You'll think of other uses for crochet covers!
3. Recent use of a map of Slovenia that owner of blog realized she had
designed 20 years before.
4. 1930's(?) posed picture of English lacemakers using an antique
candle-lit lamp stand.
5. Hand knitted playground (what a delightful idea)
6. Can you learn to make lace in a week, recommends the amusing

Etc.So, go a step further and feast your eyes!

Pictures of this lace were just posted on Facebook. The maker is Manca
Ahlin who will be one of the lecturers on OIDFA Congress 2016 in
Ljubljana,
Slovenia.
Manca lives and works in New York. She grew up in Žiri, one of the most
important Slovene lace making centres, known for its exquisite lace
makers.
Manca learned lace making as a little girl and now she is using this
knowledge in her work also.
The link is another example of her work
