Re: [lace] Oliver Twist threads
Hi Sue and Margot, You can certainly find the Oliver Twist threads in Wickham Market, at the Quilters Haven!Suffolk Lace Makers have a regular Lace Day at WM, and the hall goes silent and deserted at the lunchtime break, as everyone trundles off to Quilters Haven, and returns laden with goodie bags. I have bought several 'sets' of colours there - they have a website, and sell mailorder, but the sets of different graded colours are lovely, and save a lot of hard work and graft trying to pick out matching and contrasting shades! So - if all else fails, try the Quilters Haven web site ... RE: [lace] Oliver Twist threads & French lace
Thanks to all who responded to my Oliver thread question I am going to play around with some threads out of my stash that Brenda recommended and see what comes up best. We have a lace day on March 7th in Norwich so maybe I will have to look out for Oliver thread there as it is a new one to me or maybe not too common in the UK? [lace] Oliver Twist threads & French lace
Hello All! I made it back to E-e-erie, PA through the mountains of W VA where three tractor trailers had crashed, with one spilling a huge load of cocoa powder on the expressway! Did you know that cocoa burns? Well yes indeed. The headline in Erie was Hot Chocolate on I-79! Anyway--I wanted to respond to the OT question. I don't know the weight, but it is slightly finer than Stef Francis fine mercerised cotton & has a much higher twist. It is absolutely marvelous & comes in so many colors you will be dazzled. AND if you buy the thread pack, it comes with 8 (I think) coordinating thicker threads/yarns that can be used for gimp. I've used OT for s'Gravenmoer & Mirecourt. It's too heavy for Bucks without blowing up the pattern. As to the French lace article, thanks for posting the link. I will say, however, that the couture industry also employs bobbin lace makers. I met Mme. Arpin, La Meillieure Dentelleuse de France (sp?), at her atelier & saw a photo of a straple ss Givenchy dress with her work. The entire bodice was Cluny de Brioude leaves done in gold thread. Zowee!!
