Re: [lace] Pizzo di Cantu - Cantu Lace (Italy)
Hi Karen, (Sorry this is so late. I'm on a working retreat on Mount Carmel, where I don't have reliable Internet connection. I've been off-line since the 10th.) I'm not learning out of a book. I have a friend who lives near Milan who is a lacemaker. When she showed me her work in Cantu, I decided to give it a go. She has a very casual approach, which suits me. She sent me my first couple of patterns and a photocopied handout with basic instructions. We exchange photos and comments by email or when we're chatting on Skype. The problems I expected to encounter weren't problems, but one I didn't expect definitely is - tensioning! The first two bissete (spelled wrong, I'm not home and don't have my notes) had right angles and it was a bear to do those. I managed, but they are not very pretty. I'm working on the third now, which has softer curves and attaches on both sides to the first two. It's a very simple pattern, but I'm finding it a good one for getting my hand in. There are some excellent sites, one in particular has been a wonderful help to me and I'd be glad to send you the URL, but it is all in Italian. Do you know Italian? Even if not, the diagrams might be helpful. Italian is no problem to me, so I would definitely be glad of the URL. Enjoy your retreat.
