a size 16 bent hook(manufactured that way and perfect for joinings so you
don't have to struggle)

Oh wow!

When I was small, my Mum bent her fine crochet hook in the lid of the tin
she kept it in. It languished there until I discovered (as a teenager) how
good it was for taking sewings in Honiton. I've used it ever since (30-40
years) and nothing compares to it. Yet I've never seen anything like it
anywhere else before.

Does anyone in the UK stock these bent hooks?

Hi Jane

Wig hooks can be used for honiton. However I found that parts of them
were very sharp and therefore cut the thread. Not much use, so I use a
very fine beading needle will the eye sticking out of the handle, threaded
up and this works fine.I also use a needlepin to keep my hand in.
However, if what you are using working, then it is probably best not to
change it. I bought mine from Dennis Hornsby (now dead) but maybe his son
Bill is still trading. Not sure as I seem to think that he was stopping.
I am sure that someone will know the latest situation. or just contact a
wig maker and maybe they will let you have one or two.

Hi Jane et al,

+I think most general suppliers in the UK sell these bent pins and Lazy
Susans - and yes - they do make life a lot easier.

Bill and his wife Sylvia took on Denis's business for a while before Bill,
having dabbled in local politics, went into the Church and is now an ordained
minister. I've done a bit of Googling and discovered that he is now vicar of
Goudhurst in Kent

Goudhurst is where my 5xgt grandfather hanged in chains for smuggling!

Sylvia continued the lace business, and I think maybe one of the daughters
works with her. They have a good website (which I know is maintained by the
son-on-law)

Usual disclaimers, just a long memory!
