I think it would either have to be an edging (applied with a
different use),
or an embellished insertion.  Since no picture, it is hard to say how it’s
construction
could sway the words.

I gathered several links for you:

Book where your use of “galloon” fits:

French Heirloom site with terms (not new to most,
but
viewing it from the sewers side of it):

A Bernina How to (nothing
really new here, but it may be fun
to see various applications for laces, done
in the French Heirloom style (by
machine):

Another from the stitch technique perspective, and
shows how
stitches can create what you are talking about…embellishing the
header or
footer (again, just interesting overall):

Further digressing, here is a nice little book excerpt with
nice
pictures of stitches:

As you can tell, I love all aspects of this.
I
think yet again, you are correct, Alex!

The only thing I would suggest
for more
detailed information, would be Therese Dillmont’s Encyclopedia (on
the Arizona
site if you don’t have it at home), or AntiquePatternLibrary in
Yahoo groups,
has an amazing and often glorious collection of anything
antique.  More time than you have, and one must
have a drool cloth beneath
the chin, but no doubt in one of those old books
that are OOP and copyright
status, they would/should have reference to your
query.  The application may
or may
not be bobbin lace, but for sure needle lace and other media.  Be
forewarned…it tends to distract one from
bobbin lace and venture into new or
forgotten needlework techniques, for those
who love creating legacies with
their hands.  It is a huge work in progress.  Some basic…others like you
have never or rarely seen before…

Best,
Susan Reishus
