RE: [lace] What is on the Pillow(s)

2009-01-08 Thread Rhiannon Mann
Dear Arachneans Betty Ann,

My apologies for not realising this pattern was not in earlier editions and
for those of you who want to look this up~ my version is the completely
revised new edition dated 1995. I hope this clears things up and many thanks
to for bringing this to my attention. Does this mean there are other patterns
in earlier books or that there were more patterns put into her later
editions?

Rhiannon,
Which edition of Pam's book are you referring to? I don't find it in the 1st
edition. Later editions of the book have some changes. It sounds beautiful
and I know we all will be anxious to see the final product. You might want to
put the edition of Pam's book on the List for all of us to see. Thanks.

Happy Lacemaking,

Ah, yes, Rhiann, I also have the 1995 edition, and that pattern is an
interesting variation in gimp; your colors will be beautiful, I believe.
Thanks for giving us the edition you are
using.

FW: [lace] What is on the Pillow(s)

2009-01-06 Thread Rhiannon Mann
Happy New Year to all Spiders around the world!

I had cleared all my pillows off after the christmas card exchange and now
have got a third of the way around a photo frame edging using pattern 6 of
Pamela Nottingham's 'fine bucks patterns' on page 168 of her The Technique of
Bobbin Lace. It is a narrow edging consisting of a mostly honeycomb ground
with three single gimps making a kind of triplicate horse-shoe outline. I am
using a pink/purple colour of gimps two darker lines surrounding a lighter one
through the middle and so I think I will name it a pink trinity. I'll get it
up onto webshots once i'm done!

Its nice to hear about the range of work on other people's pillows and wish
everyone well with their lacemaking in 2009.

Rhiannon

Re: [lace] What is on the Pillow(s)

2009-01-01 Thread Carol

Hi Spiders All.

Firstly, can I say that any mistakes in the message are due to the
overwhelming joy of getting broadband - and therefore the Internet and
eMails - back!We have been without since the beginning of December, and
it has seemed an eternity - but I now have upwards of 900 messages to plough
through, so I don't give much for the chances of the housework!

My lacemaking has been severely curtailed due to my husband's illness, but I
managed to finish the light-surround pattern by Biggins - I have reduced it
in size, cut it about, and made it the right size for a photograph to go in
the centre, and my daughter-in-law is delighted! I still have the
Christmas decorations on several pillows which should have been completed
for this Christmas - but there is always next year, isn't there.

On one of my travel roller pillow is a garter - very easy and quick to do -
as my cousin't son is getting married this year, so that will be a surprise
present for them. I also have things - and bobbins - on other pillows
which are in the 'Lace Place' but haven't been looked at, but when - if -
life gets back to normal, they will no doubt come out of hiding...

We started the year as we ended 2008 - in hospital, as the emergency
services were called out for John on 31st Dec.They now think, to add to
the neuroendocrine cancer and the angina, that he may have a pulmonary
embolism - all of which cancer patients who are having or who have had
chemotherapy are prone, so we are hoping that things will improve ...
Please keep us in your prayers and thoughts, and my best wishes go to you
all for a happy and healthy, peaceful and prosperous 2009.

All best wishes,

Carol - in Suffolk UK.
