Re: [lace] yardage competition

2011-04-11 Thread finn
Dear Liz,

Yardage, to me means lengths of lace - various lengths, any length, -
but being a continuous repeat of a pattern until you get as much as you need.

And that is what they are looking for. When they say There are no
limitations, that is precisely what they mean. The style, length, width,
etc are entirely up to you. They will only judge one repeat. If you do
more than one repeat, you can designate the repeat to be judged or you can
leave it up to them to choose the repeat to be judged.

The competition is tied in with the big lace exhibit which is held in
Bochum, Germany, every other November. The last one featured the
butterfly contest, the winners of which were in the last IOL bulletin.

RE: [lace] yardage competition

2011-04-09 Thread Sue
I remember Norfolk Lacemakers winning a yardage completion some years back,
it was a team of 4 taking turns on the same pillow with a set pricking,
thread etc. and it was simply what team made the most lace in a set time,
cannot remember how long though.

[lace] yardage competition

2011-04-07 Thread Elizabeth Ligeti
I received my IOLI Bulletin yesterday, and there is a page with a Yardage
competition to be held in Germany next year.

It does not say how long a piece of lace has to be. - Yes, I know, I thought
a yard - but it says it can have corners in it, - so would the foot side
have to be a yard long, or the outer edge?...

It mentions repeats of the pattern, - but nowhere gives a specific
measurement for the overall length.

Yardage, to me means lengths of lace - various lengths, any length, - but
being a continuous repeat of a pattern until you get as much as you need.

Does anyone have any further knowledge of this forthcoming competition, and
any further instructions for it?

Regards from Liz in Melbourne, Oz.

Hello Liz and everyone

My take on it is per the middle paragraph: This competition is all
about yardage. There are no limitations set. A combination with other
crafts is permitted (etc.)...one repeat must be clearly visible...

Open to interpretation ;)
The lacemaker interprets 'yardage' in some way, and that is the entry!
