[lace-chat] :-) True bravery

2004-04-19 Thread Jean Nathan
True bravery is arriving home late after a boy's night out, being assaulted
by your wife with a broom, and still having the guts to ask: Are you still
cleaning or are you flying somewhere?

[lace-chat] Thank You Debbie Mouzon!!!

2004-04-19 Thread Shirlee Hill
Debbie Mouzon was my Secret Pal!

Thank you, Debbie, for being such a great pal! Looks like we have quite a few things
in common other than lacing. I, too, am 50 years old, married (28 years instead of
29, though), have two children! My husband I used to live in Florida both of
our children were born there (St. Petersburg).

How lucky for you to have lived in England for 6 years! John (DH) I are planning a
trip there this fall ... our first visit! Guess what I'll be brining home in my extra
suitcase? Lol!

Thank you so much for the lovely spangles, the beautiful bobbin, of course the bit
of beachfront property : )

Do contact me via email if you'd like let's keep in touch!

Thank you again for being such a great Secret Pal!

[lace-chat] :-)) Golf story

2004-04-19 Thread Jeanette Fischer
This joke did the rounds 30+ years ago but the garment then was a step-in but
I suppose not many people know what that is any longer!! Jeanette Fischer,

Two golfers are in the changing room after their 18-hole round. One of them
wears a bra.

When did you start wearing a bra! he is asked.

Ever since my wife found one in the cubby hole of my car!

Re: [lace-chat] Thank You Debbie Mouzon!!!

2004-04-19 Thread Ruth Budge
Dear Weronika,
A couple of times a year, all on the Arachne lists get the opportunity, if they
so wish, to sign up and take part in a round of gift exchanges. The idea is
that you send a small gift each month to another member of the list, but they
don't know who you are till the final one, when your identity is revealed.

In turn, you're matched up with someone else, and that person also sends you a
gift each month anonomously. I think each Secret Pal round of exchanges
lasts six months, but if I'm wrong, someone will correct me!

Watch the list, and the Secret Pal Co-ordinator will announce when the next
round starts, and the rules for the running of it.

Regards, Ruth Budge (Sydney, Australia)

[lace-chat] Secret Pals -- Coordinator Needed

2004-04-19 Thread Alice Howell
Greetings,

As Ruth mentioned, the Secret Pals are a group of Arachnians who
participate in an exchange of mystery gifts. Each person sends one package
a month for six months, anonymously for the first five months. The sixth
month is the revealing month.

The current round of Secret Pals ended this month. The next round would go
from May to October. This was my fourth time of coordinating the
exchange. I think I need a break. I'm looking for someone to take the job
for a round.

Here are some comments on the job that might help you decide if you can or
cannot do it.

The coordinator first collects the applications from the persons
interested. Then assigns each person to a sending person. Each person is
sent a copy of the application information of the person she will send
to. This original set up takes me about 3-4 evenings to complete.

Then, for the next six months, the coordinator keeps track of the thank you
messages that are to be sent after each gift is received. Questions and
concerns of the secret pals are sent to the coordinator for forwarding to
the proper person, then the answers sent back to the sender. Some months,
this activitiy is very small, and some months there are quite a few emails
received and sent.

The coordinator must be willing to receive this extra volume of emails and
respond to them. The job does not end with assigning the secret pals. The
coordinator must also be willing to remove someone from the list if
packages are not being sent, or if someone has a life style change that
requires them to drop out of the round. This happens usually once or twice
a round.

However, it can be a bit of fun. You know whom each person has as a
pal. You can get better acquainted with some of them during the
round. Anyone who is interested can write to me. We'll discuss it.

Prospective secret pals should wait for an application message before applying.

Happy lacing,
Alice in Oregon --- where it's still raining.
