[lace-chat] S.P. thank you

2004-07-13 Thread Kevin Turner
Thank you for your parcel which arrived this morning, as I waited for the
bus picking up my daughter,so we stood on the front lawn and opened it, taking
things out one at a time and talking about it. The card was just lovely, did
you make it?Well I would never have thought of that with the horseshoe, must
admit with an up coming wedding (D.S) I had a couple of other thoughts. I will
take it to lace on Friday and see if anyone can guess, but I will certainly
try it. I have had a look through the cook book, and started to get a few
ideas for tea. The heart I will find something to go in it, the lavender
sachet smells so nice I will put it in my lace cupboard, to keep it nice. the
magnet is terrific, I had one but I think DH took it, he thought it great for
retrieving lost screws while he is doing repairs this I will hide. I will have
to find a project for the threads, and the sweets are very tempting, but I
will share them with my grandchildren on Friday, when I go over for my
grandsons 13th birthday, The badge I will put in my collection. Yes I have
done a few other crafts, and am trying to find time to do some more patchwork
at present, I have done the teddy bears, and am knitting scarf's at present.
So a very big thank you again

Re: [lace-chat] secret pal thanks

2004-07-13 Thread Ruth Budge
Anne - I wonder did your secret pal tell you that possums also have the habit
of staging large, noisy fights in the tree-tops at night?? We have
ring-tailed possums in our neighbourhood (in suburban Sydney - you don't have
to live in the country to have possums around) and they apparently have a
variety of homes around the area, moving onto the next one when they've
exhausted the food in a particular area. They were very noisy here a few
months ago, till one night they came down out the trees and ate ALL the new
plants (many, many pounds worth!) in our garden. A couple of nights later, I
noticed all was quiet, and discovered they'd moved on (presumably to the next
freshly-planted garden!) The ring-tailed (so called because they have a white
ring around the tail) possums use the overhead electricity wires as a sort of
aerial footpath to walk along and cross the streets. It's a bit hair-raising,
watching them - they wobble so much I keep waiting for them to fall off, but
I've never seen one fall yet.

I am so sorry to hear about Betty Alderson. I had the opportunity to know
them from attending workshops in Omaha, NE several times. She and Pete have
been such an asset to the lace world. They have provided many of my supplies for
tatting and bobbin lace. My heart goes out to Pete.

Jean,

You could just do a "crazy quilt" type sweater with your wool. My mum
(Liz in Melbourne, Oz) has made 1 or 2, and I think maybe got the idea
from her Mum (she'll know that story for sure), and you just knit each
block as it tickles your fancy. Wish I had a picture to share, but I
don't. They look kinda cool, and are a fun way to use up little scraps
of yarn. Lots of end to sew in though :-(

Cheers,
Helen, Aussie living in sizzling Denver
