[lace-chat] How to deal with stress

2005-02-22 Thread Noelene Lafferty
*Accept that some days you're the pigeon, and some days you're The statue.

* Always keep your words soft and sweet, just in case you have to eat them.

* Always read stuff that will make you look good if you die in the middle of it.

* Drive carefully. It's not only cars that can be recalled by their maker.

* If you can't be kind, at least have the decency to be vague.

* If you lend someone $20 and never see that person again, it was probably
worth it.

* It may be that your sole purpose in life is simply to serve as a warning to
others.

* Never buy a car you can't push.

* Never put both feet in your mouth at the same time, because then you won't
have a leg to stand on.

* Nobody cares if you can't dance well. Just get up and dance.

* Since it's the early worm that gets eaten by the bird, sleep late.

* The second mouse gets the cheese.

* When everything's coming your way, you're in the wrong lane.

* Birthdays are good for you. The more you have, the longer you live.

* You may be only one person in the world, but you may also be the world to
one person.

* Some mistakes are too much fun to only make once.

* We could learn a lot from crayons. Some are sharp, some are pretty and
some are dull. Some have weird names, and all are different colors, but they
all have to live in the same box.

* A truly happy person is one who can enjoy the scenery on a detour.

I think I'll adopt the first one as my personal motto.

[lace-chat] FW: Seven Wonders of the World

2005-02-22 Thread Jane Bawn
Something to make you think

THE SEVEN WONDERS OF THE WORLD

A group of students were asked to list what
 they thought were the present
Seven Wonders of the World. Though there
 were some disagreements,
the following received the most votes:

  1. Egypt's Great Pyramids

  2. Taj Mahal

  3. Grand Canyon

  4. Panama Canal

  5. Empire State Building

  6. St. Peter's Basilica

  7. China's Great Wall

While gathering the votes, the teacher noted
 that one student
had not finished her paper yet. So she
 asked the girl if
she was having trouble with her list. The
 girl replied,
Yes, a little. I couldn't quite make up my
mind because there were so many.

The teacher said, Well, tell us what you
have, and maybe we can help.

The girl hesitated, then read, I think the
'Seven Wonders of the World' are:

  1. To See

  2. To Hear

  3. To Touch

  4. To Taste

  5. To Feel

  6. To Laugh

  7. And to Love.

The room was so quiet you could have heard a
 pin drop.
The things we overlook as simple and
 ordinary and that
we take for granted are truly wondrous!

  A gentle reminder --
that the most precious things in life
cannot be built by hand or bought by man
