[lace-chat] Secret Pal Thanks

2003-08-18 Thread Andrea Sommers
I really want to thank my Secret Pal for this month's and last month's
package. The Lace Day and the VanSciver Bobbin Lace were great. The Lace Day
brochure makes me want to attend a lace day - I will have to save my money so
that maybe next year or the year after I can attend one. Again, as soon as I
get some extra money I will have to purchase some of the great looking items
in the catalog. Currently, with the remodeling and my daughter's wedding have
taken ALL my extra money. She seems to know when I get a few dollars ahead
and then asks for something else. I do have to admit that she is paying for
more than half of the wedding expenses. I love the gold rush embroidery
thread. I will have a great time with the thread. As I have said, you must
be a mind reader - with the various "talk" on the e-mail about the thread
comparison chart, I have thought about getting one and now thanks to your
generosity, I do not have to buy one myself. Did you make the heart pin? It
is great I also love the beads for spangling my bobbins. Lastly, but
surely not least, thank you for the beautiful picture album. I know that you
said I could use it for my next traveling; however, I am going to use it for
copies of my daughter's wedding pictures. You have been a great Secret Pal
and I am s lucky to have you as my Secret Pal.

Thanks -

Re: [lace-chat] Festivals

2003-07-08 Thread Andrea Sommers
I have had a couple of requests for the Avocado Muffin recipe so I though if
any one else wanted it, I would share with all.

Avocado Muffins = makes 12 cupcake sized muffins (slightly different in
different sized pans - never tried the really big and deep muffin pan).

2 cups flour
3/4 cup sugar
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt (I omit - do not like to cook with salt - I ONLY add to
bread)

Sift or mix well into bowl and set aside.

1/4 cup oil (i.e. Wesson, etc.). I have also used butter Crisco but makes
muffins taste different
3/4 chopped pecans (I have used almonds and walnuts and one time mixed all)
1 egg (I use jumbo)
1/2 to 3/4 cup mashed avocado. The more you use the more moist the muffins
are)
1 cup buttermilk (can also use sour milk or regular milk with 1 teaspoon
vinegar)

Slightly beat egg. Add remaining ingredients above (not flour mixture).
Stir well. Add flour mixture - adding a little at a time.

DO NOT OVERMIX

Pour into paper lined (or Pam - or equivalent sprayed) muffin tins. I also
like to use shaped muffin pans - I have 3 or 4 different shaped ones. Bake
350 degrees for 25 to 30 minutes. Test for doneness like any muffin or
cake. These can be frozen and they do freeze well. To reheat THAWED
muffins 350 degrees for 10 minutes or FROZEN muffin (one at a time) in
microwave wrapped in paper towel for 30 seconds.

The one that I like best is the Avocado Festival in Carpinteria,
California,
in October. Carpinteria is a sleepy little town most of the year not far
from
Santa Barbara. However, everybody turns out for the Avocado Festival.
They
have avocado everything. I kinda like avocado ice cream. I love avocado
muffins and have made them myself, they are great fun and very delicious.
They have a really slight tint of green and most people love them and want
to
know what is in them.

When doing bobbin lace, crochet, or knitting, how do you add pearls or other
gems? Are there instructions somewhere? Thanks -

Re: [lace-chat] :) Fwd: A magnificent mess: English!

2003-06-24 Thread Andrea Sommers
As a child I had 3 years of speech therapy for a similar problem. Today, I
still cannot say some words and simply avoid the words. I feel sorry for
the German Girl. I could not say "th" "st" or some complicated words before
the therapy. When I was in my 40's I met a person who was an actor on
stage. Gorgeous man with a musical voice. However, after the performance,
I found out that he stammered - very badly. I later learned from him that
if you hear a word that you cannot say you can "parrot" the word correctly.
As such, I have "learned" to say words that I could never say before.

[lace-chat] E-Bay Item

2003-06-24 Thread Andrea Sommers
This was accidentally sent directly a member of the list as a response
to his E-mail and should have been the list entirely:

I haven't seen pins like that in years. We had some just like that -
even
same colors - in the US for putting into your hair rollers to keep them
from
rolling off your head when you went to sleep. This takes me back to my
teen
years - far tooo many to count. Of course, you also have a needle
punch
and a loop holder (don't know the exact term) for removing knitting from
the
main needle until you have done the other stitches you are doing about
this
part (such as doing cables). Don't know what the pick is for unless it
is
just a pick. Have no idea what the spool is for unless it is just a
used
spool.

[lace-chat] Secret Pal

2003-06-13 Thread Andrea Sommers
What a pleasant surprise to receive your package this month. Beverly,
my daughter, wanted some accessory pieces in an Avon dish set. I
thought it would be fun to get her the FULL set, including place
settings for 4 plus ALL the accessory pieces. I now have most of the
pieces and I am only completing miscellaneous pieces. I was even able to
obtain a autographed book explaining when the pieces were made, etc.
(and giving me a list of all the pieces). Well, I have been buying
these on E-Bay so it was soo very nice to get a package for myself
instead of just her - not that this is not fun collecting these for her.
By the way, she does not know I am getting the set - might suspect but
does not know so in September, hopefully, she will be surprised.

Thanks for the potholder and towel set. These will look great in my
kitchen. I am almost finished with the remodel of it and will be
painting it yellow when I am finished and the colors in the set are
PERFECT and I wanted some new towels for the new kitchen and really
needed the potholder, might have gotten very old and used. I will have
to admit that one of the first things I did when I received your gifts
was just sit down and enjoy a cup of tea. What a delight to just sit
and relax and drink tea from a friend - would be better with the friend
but almost as good. Last but certainly not least is the Hollyhock
flower magnet and the gorgeous leaded glass Angel charm to hang on my
sliding glass door, the charm looks great and will get sunlight most of
the year. The Hollyhock magnet is on my refrigerator to remind me of
your kindness as my Secret Pal.

Thanks for every thing I really enjoy your gifts.
