[lace-chat] Help Please, from all you computer literates ...

2009-10-23 Thread Carol
Hi All,

I am hoping for some help!

Before he passed away after last Christmas, my husband updated our address
lists, for Christmas cards, letters, birthday, anniversaries etc. However,
in his wisdom, he password-protected it, so I can't access the wretched lists.
I have tried all the passwords he used, but as yet, no joy! Does anyone
have any suggestions? My son assures me that breaking the password is NOT
the same as breaking the computer, but I am very much inclined to the
latter...

Take care of yourselves, and I will hope for some good advice, for which I
thank you all in advance.

Does anyone know Cary Foertesch? She used to live in Vancouver, Washington and
has moved to Corbett, Oregon. We have been corresponding for years ( by e-mail)
but she now isn't on line, she sent me a lovely Xmas card and a piece of her
lace and now I have mislaid her address, the envelope it was written on got
put out with the trash by mistake. I wouldn't want her to think that I didn't
care anymore.I really hope someone can be of some help.

Hi Everyone,

I am trying to locate an embroidery pattern for lace bobbins that will sew on
a Pfaff 7570 sewing machine.

I would be very grateful of any help you could give me.

Many thanks

Peter have you seen this!! As someone who knows Peter's designs, he has made
quite a few lovely bobbin designs for the Husqvarna, which no doubt can be
converted.

We were always told by my grandmother to smash the bottom out of the empty
half of an egg shell after eating a boiled egg so that the witches couldn't
use them as boats. Work that one out! Makes no sense to me at all, but you
didn't question what my grandmother said.

WHAT A RELIEF!!

I was going to reply to the post yesterday, and then thought No, everyone
will think I've got a really weird family. I have never met anyone else who
knew about the witches and using egg shells as boats.

Jean - thank you for bring this to light - perhaps we are related somewhere
back in the relics of time. I have a lot of cousins on my grandmother's side
that I've never been able to track down.

Malvary - in Ottawa. I can now go off to work knowing that I'm not the only
person that has weird ancesters.

Dear Shirl,
 Never leave your eggshells
  Unbroken in the cup
  ??
Grab your teaspoon firmly
And smash the buggers up!!!
I've heard it before, but can only remember our kids' uncensored version
which finished as above

This has nothing to do with lace but hope someone can help me. When my Sister
and I were small our Mother used to tell us a little verse , we can only
remember the first couple of lines and I hope someone out there can remember
the rest.
It begins like this

Don't know Shirley, but I was always told to upend my
empty eggshell and smash it to save a drowning sailor
which seemed a contradiction to me.

This webgsite has a 'lost quotations' section. Not operating until the end
of June, but I've found it very useful in the past for finding various poems

Tamara.I was going to send you a message anyway
about postage. The Royal Mail is proposing changing its way of charging for post,
moving from charging by weight only to charging by size *and* weight. This
has horrified mail order firms with at least one, a film developing service,
reckoning it will go out of business as thits strenght is cheap processing witn
minimum postal costs. I imagine this will also affect magazine subscriptions.

I'm sending this to you and cc'd to chat. Hope you get them both.
We should be getting broadband here at the end of the mont, and much as
want it I'm not looking forward to the changeover!

Gentle Spiders,
Can someone do me a favour, please, and send me a message? After a
long debate with myself, I decided to give Postini (the spam filter
available from my ISP) a second chance --I'd signed up for it a couple
years ago and gave up, in disgust, after 3 days, but have been told
it's improved now. Hah! Came back home to 6 messages -- 3 in the
private box (one telling me that I now have the new added service.
Service!) and 3 on lace. Nothing at all on chat.

Yet Alice tells me (one of the 3 message in the private box) there's
been a flood of messages on lace...

So, I think, OK, Positini is holding them all, thinking they're either
spam or virus or something. I go to Postini -- your box is empty it
says... No messages in my account -- none in Postini's holding pen,
none on my account at the ISP, none (beyond those 6, all sent out
before noon) on my puter... it's so frustrating, I could *spit*. Bad
enough that I don't get to see my own mesages on the list; now I don't
get to see anyone else's... I just hope I hadn't got unsubscribed as
well, for some reason, and this message reaches y'all...

So, please, please send something; for once, I won't mind there being
too many :)

Pox on all technology...
