We now have four times the members that we had when I joined. It's impossible to list all the lacing information that I've gained through this group. I still have memories of the Arachne 98 conference in Nottingham. It was really special to me -- probably a chance in a lifetime. I tell my husband that my membership in Arachne is all his fault, so he's responsible for all the things I've done with it. When we got on the internet, he demanded that I sit down and type something into the Search. I typed Bobbin Laceand you can guess the rest of the story. Not only did it lead me to Nottingham, but also to the Lace Museum workshops twice, a Regional meeting in North Carolina, many exchanges of lace and bobbins around the world, and a great many new friends. Many, many people answered my questions, so I try to give back some of that good will by helping newbies. Long Live the Lace List Let's all give it a toast! [lace-chat] happy birthday to us
The list (just lace and lace-digest then) started 9 years ago today. Hooray for us. We've got about 1050 unique members across the lists and around the world today, who'd have thunk it, I sure didn't. My own life is completely different than it was then, and the last year has been one of the most exciting, we bought our first home this year, a cozy 4 bedroom house built in the early 1920's and moved in the beginning of Sept. I spent the next 2 months furiously nesting to prepare for the arrival of our second baby, Margaret Anne, born Dec 5 in a huge snowstorm (but I got safely to the hospital in plenty of time). If you've been wondering why no one has heard from me, now you know :*) My wish for all of you this year is if your times are interesting, that all your events be blessed, and if they are peaceful your days are filled with needlework. -Liz ps - if any of you are in the NYC area and free sunday april 25, you're invited to the christening party at our place - email me for directions.
