It is also apropos since the beehive metaphor has been used before to represent the work of building up the Kingdom of God, in this case with software. Justin -- Wir müssen wissen. Re: [Ldsoss] new members
I joined this list last week while searching for any parallel developments on ward directory programs. I have been developing an XML-based directory & customizable membership tracking system for several years now and the progress was so slow, due to time constraints, that I wanted to see if I could enlist help, or find out if I was doing redundant work. Is anyone else working on an adaptable ward directory system that can connect to the MLS, or at least ingest it's data export? I am not interested in complex, database-centric solutions, as I want to encourage developments in multiple outputs and all of the projects I've seen thus far are too closed for easy adaptation. I am also interested in the open source movement and I'm surprised that I haven't heard of this forum before. Currently, I am studying for a masters in Information Systems at BYU, graduating next April, and working for a language learning research lab on campus. --- JeffreyD ___ Ldsoss mailing list Ldsoss@lists.ldsoss.org http://lists.ldsoss.org/mailman/listinfo/ldsoss
Re: [Ldsoss] Web page graphic
I thought it was odd at first glance too. After inspecting it, I was able to get the 'bee in front of a honey-comb' meaning, but it wasn't obvious at first. I don't know about others, but my thoughts went something like: "What is that...radioactive military wasp? Oh, bee. What's that thing he's on, a nuclear/biohazard symbol? Oh, hexagon. Bee, hexagon. Must be a honeycomb cell. Classic 'deseret' beehive-related reference, I get it. I wonder if others do..." No offense intended to the creator of the graphic, of course. Others probably had different impressions. On 10/26/05, Shane Hathaway <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > Ah, ok. Working at the Church has made me realize just how much the Church benefits from technology. I believe the Lord plants useful ideas and solutions in the mind of anyone with a righteous intent and a hard working attitude. As a result, the Church doesn't have to develop everything itself and it saves a lot of tithing dollars. ;-) Some benefits are surprising. Ever since I installed MythTV, my family only bothers to watch quality programs, giving us more time to spend together. Credit for a slightly better family goes to the MythTV developers! Others milage may vary in this, but I have found that one key component of getting a high Google PageRank with my websites is getting them listed in the Open Directory Project [1]. In fact, I found this to be so critical that I eventually applied to become an editor, and for similar reasons to those that you describe above, I ultimately became responsible for the LDS category. 1. http://dmoz.org/ The problem is, there are far too many sites and categories for me to keep up with, so there is a constant back-log of new sites to review. Perhaps someone from your organization (or anyone on the list, for that matter) would be interested in joining the ODP, and helping me list good LDS sites, which will increase their global net visibility. If I happen to find a pornographic or obscene site, I can tag it and save everyone else the trouble of ever finding it.
