Looks like I'm still having problems downloading the CVS tarball, so only
stuff 'early' in the CVS tarball is getting updated.

I'm re-working the sync script, but it might be a couple days before I get
all the kinks worked out.  I'll post what I wind up with here in case it's
useful to anyone else...
