[leaf-user] Best place for own shell scripts

2012-11-25 Thread Markus Koelle
Hi,

where in LEAF filesystem is the recommended place to store own perl and shell
scripts? The scripts should be saved with standard config backup mechanism.

[leaf-user] ARP cache problem

2012-11-24 Thread Markus Koelle
Hi,

we hava a LEAF 4.3.1 box with 2 physical interfaces eth0 and eth1. eth0 has 5
virtual interfaces eth0:0, eth0:1 etc.

Now the problem: We change the eth0 nic (a new MAC address) and reboot, but
none of IP address on the virtual interfaces eth0:0 etc is reachable. The
Gateway is a CISCO edge router/firewall. Purging CISCOs arp cache would perhaps
solve the problem, but we don't have direct acces to the gateway.
We can use arping command - what's the correct way of use? The virtual IPs
should be reachable without delay after changing the MAC address.
Any better options? (perhaps a shorewall parameter?)

Cheers Markus

No - shorewall6 is manually startable. ip6tabels -L looks well.

It's a little bit funny, one BUC 4.3.1 box (VIA EDEN with 3 Realtek-Nics) does
showing this behavior. Another brand-new NexCOM NSA-3110 Box with 8 Intel-NICs
doesn't. The Realtek nics have massive problems under load (very high cpu% -
sirq% - soft interrupts). Realtek Nics are missing irq coalesce feature, Intel
adapters not.

Any coherence?

Any ideas?

Hi,

in BUC 4.3.1 shorewall6 doesn't start automatically after booting. Manuelly I

Shorewall6 init script is soft linked in /etc/rc0.d.

What's is missing?

[leaf-user] muninlite - a shell script minimal munin-node

2012-11-15 Thread Markus Koelle
Hi,

I've found MuninLite http://sourceforge.net/projects/muninlite/ - a minimal
monitoring node for Munin written in shell script, not in full featured perl.
MuninLite works very well with Munin, has ready to use plugins (df, cpu,
if_ethx, if_err, load, memory, processes, swap, netsat, uptime, interrupts,
irqstats). It's easy to build a new plugin in a few minutes. But a lrp would be
better than the pure tar.gz file.

A muninlite.lrp would be a very nice and ready to use LEAF package, but
unfortunately I'm not a leaf developer. Any hints?

Cheers

[leaf-user] munin-node for Leaf Bering uClibc

2012-11-11 Thread Markus Koelle
Hi,

we are using Munin 2.8 ( http://munin-monitoring.org/ ) for montioring all
our servers and services. Our munin server collects all data from the
munin-nodes (clients) installed an all servers. Munin plots nice grafs, is easy
to install, has plugins for many services and is easy to expand for new
monitoring tasks. Also for openwrt a munin-node is available.

A munin-node.lrp for our LEAF boxes is missing still n our "munin monitoring
would" - would be a very nice feature for LEAF.

Cheers

Benefits of ucarp: ucarp can synchronize the states of connection
between HA nodes - keepalived needs the still premature ct_sync kernel
module to do the same.

Further strong points of the CARP protocol in comparison with VRRP
protocol (keepalived): very low overhead, cryptographically signed
messages, interoperability between different operating systems and no
need for any dedicated extra network link between redundant hosts.

[leaf-user] Problems with timezone

2003-01-08 Thread Markus Koelle
I've got problems with the timezone in Bering-1.0 (uClibc 1.1 Rev. 1.5 from CVS).
My configuration is exactly as described in Bering user's guide:
http://leaf.sourceforge.net/devel/jnilo/butime.html

a) copy the zonefile for Europe/Berlin to /etc/localtime
b) edit /etc/timezone --->Europe/Berlin
c) /etc/tzvalue is commented out completely

# date
Wed Jan 8 16:53:56 UTC 2003
  ^^ should be CET

Bering 1.0rc3 and Debian woody on the same machine are working well for timezone
CET, but not so Bering uClibc 1.1 (Rev. 1.5 from CVS).

Any hints?
