[Leaf-user] Replacing Kernel

2002-03-14 Thread Kim Oppalfens

Hi all,

Just wondering how difficult it would be to replace the kernel on a
eigerstein beta 2 floppy.

Replace by kernel 2.2.19
Replace by kernel 2.4.x

Would just compiling it on another machine and replace the linux file on the
floppy and of course replace the necessary modules work?

Of course the respectively patches need to be applied.

Or should I take some other things into consideration.

I guess it would be difficult.

If you want you could try Bering beta-4.

It has 2.4.16 kernel+shorewall.

You can just replace the existing kernel with one of Charles' Dachstein
ones for 2.2.19. The mini one is his stock floppy kernel. You might
consider upgrading to Dachstein though, Charles has cleaned and
optimized a huge amount of old code from Eigerstein with it. To go to
a 2.4 kernel, a new system will be needed (such as Bering).. the
boot system needs to be different since the LRP patches aren't
compatible.

If linux isn't the answer, you've probably got the wrong question!
